IT Home reported on August 17 that the legend continues, Volkswagen said that its first electric ID.GTI will be a "real kart" with legendary elements.

Volkswagen released the ID.GTI concept car in September last year. Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaefer said that GTI and Golf are the future of its electric vehicles.

Kai Grunitz, Volkswagen's technical development chief, said at last month's GTI Fanfest that the electric model won't be the most powerful, but it will be the most fun to drive.

"GTI is still going on and we will keep it alive in the future," Gruenitz explained, adding that GTI is "not just about power" but passion. Volkswagen's technical director said it is "very easy" to enhance power for electric vehicles, but "for GTI, driving performance is more important."

Grunitz described Volkswagen's first electric GTI as a "real go-kart." He said he had already driven a prototype and declared that "it was really great."

As shown in the picture, this concept car continues the design elements of Volkswagen's classic GTI model, and Volkswagen also promises to bring better handling performance to achieve a "kart-like" driving experience.

The electric GTI is based on an upgraded version of the MEB platform. The sports electric car, which is expected to go into production in 2026, will be able to adjust the drive system, running gear, steering and sound experience of classic GTI models for the first time, such as the 76-year-old Golf GTI 1.

According to Handelsblatt, Volkswagen's Trinity EV, which is positioned as a competitor to Tesla, will be delayed until 2032, so the electric Golf model may be launched earlier. With the help of Rivian, the electric Golf may be launched in 2029 or earlier.

It is worth mentioning that the Volkswagen ID.2 was spotted testing on the Nürburgring a few days ago. Volkswagen said that the starting price of the ID.2all is less than 25,000 euros (IT Home Note: Currently about 197,000 yuan), which is also the basis of the ID.GTI concept car.
