How to verify the safety performance of a car? Only cruel and rigorous professional tests can be used. On July 15, Chery Group's high-end new energy series Star Era medium and large pure electric sedan - 2025 Star Era ES, jointly with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (hereinafter referred to as "CATARC"), launched an ultra-high-speed 120km/h three-car clamping collision test in Tianjin. With its all-round super safety strength, the 2025 Star Era ES successfully completed this extreme test under the witness of the entire network audience, and was unanimously affirmed by on-site experts and authoritative media, practicing the original intention of "born for users" in car manufacturing, and deeply interpreting "safety is the greatest luxury".
Three cars collided at high speed, exceeding the national standard by 6.36 times, demonstrating the safety of the vehicle
The three-car clamp collision test is "unprecedented" for the Chinese automobile industry. Conventional standard collision tests often use trolleys, and the impact energy is specific and controllable, and the impact direction is single. This test uses real cars to clamp and impact in both directions to simulate a real collision. The impact energy is closer to that of a real accident, and the vehicle safety performance is comprehensively examined.
At the test site, the 2025 Star Era ES, as a test vehicle, underwent a number of preparations before the test. Dummies were installed in the main driver's seat, the co-driver's seat, and the left side of the second row, and acceleration sensors and electrical measuring equipment were installed. At the same time, the vehicle was weighed and measured, and the vehicle was placed in a position where the longitudinal center was perpendicular to the 0° track of the test site. During the test, two bullet cars will hit the front and rear sides of the test vehicle from 180° and 30° tracks at a speed of 60km/h, simulating the dangerous driving scene of being sandwiched by vehicles on both sides of the lane when turning around during daily driving. This test is not only innovative in its method, but its collision speed of 60km/h is also higher than the 50km/h collision speed of the 2021 version of C-NCAP side collision. The kinetic energy generated by the collision of three vehicles is equivalent to the energy of 117gTNT explosion, which is approximately equal to the power of two ordinary standard grenades. The difficulty of the test exceeds the national standard by 6.36 times.
The crash test evaluated the test results through electrical safety, restraint system, structural performance, occupant protection, accident rescue, etc. Finally, under the witness of the entire network and the appraisal of on-site experts, the 2025 Star Era ES successfully completed the industry's first ultra-high-speed 120km/h three-car clamping collision test.
After the collision, the side airbags, side curtain airbags and remote airbags of the 2025 Star Era ES detonated in time and deployed normally; the seat belts detonated in time and did not fail; there was no obvious deformation of the seat mounting points and seat frames, effectively controlling the dummy's injury value within the limit requirements; the passenger compartment was intact, there was sufficient space for the occupants to survive, and there was no structural failure in the A, B, and C pillars; the double flashes were turned on in time, the E-CALL emergency rescue function was automatically dialed and responded quickly, and the doors were automatically unlocked and opened smoothly, reserving a life channel for rescuing the occupants in the car; in addition, in terms of battery safety, which users are most concerned about, the high-voltage system automatically cuts off power after the collision, and the battery pack has no displacement, leakage, smoke, fire, or explosion. It can be said that the safety quality has been taken to the extreme.
Multi-dimensional security efforts, strong performance comes from hard-core strength
The reason why the 2025 Star Era ES has such hardcore safety quality is inseparable from its unique "Safety FAST" development concept, striving to achieve the safety goals of "0 damage, 0 spontaneous combustion, 0 leakage, 0 intrusion, 0 loss of control, 0 gradual freezing, and 0 isolated islands".
In order to achieve the 7 "0" safety vision, the 2025 Star Era ES first put a lot of effort into the body structure. As the first line of defense for passive safety, it is built with global five-star safety standards and has a cage-type space capsule 2.0 high-performance body. The proportion of high-strength steel in the overall body has increased from 85% to 88%. The high-strength steel, hot-formed steel and aluminum alloy hybrid structure body is leading in the same class, and the body torsional stiffness has increased from 42600N·m/deg to 46000N·m/deg. The solid materials used in every place are protecting the safety of users and their families.
In terms of the front structure, the 2025 Star Era ES has a high-performance aluminum profile front bumper beam that fully covers the entire front of the car. The side structure adopts a multi-ring design to transfer the load, and the high-strength aluminum alloy door sill runs through the entire door sill to maximize the safety of the driver and passengers. The cage structure design and two horizontal and three vertical embracing force transmission structure are lighter, stronger, and more material-rich, meeting the collision protection requirements in different directions.
Secondly, in terms of the restraint system inside the car, the 2025 Star Era ES is equipped with active motor pre-tensioned seat belts and 7 airbags as standard. It has the longest side air curtains in the industry and 100% full coverage from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. Combined with the industry-leading dual force-limited seat belts, the chest injury value of the occupant during a collision is reduced by about 30%.
In terms of battery safety, the 2025 ES has a 1+8+1 super battery safety protection system to achieve all-round mechanical protection and thermal management of the battery pack. Based on this system, the upper shell of the battery system of the 2025 ES uses high-strength composite glass fiber non-metallic materials with high corrosion resistance and high strength. The lower guard plate uses ultra-high-strength steel hot forming technology with a yield strength of 1300MPa, and the overall mechanical impact resistance is 60 times the national standard.
In addition, the 2025 ES battery pack uses a large-displacement explosion-proof valve to prevent overpressure explosion, uses mica plates to prevent burn-through, and uses scientific exhaust space and paths, plus special high-temperature resistant insulation materials on the sides and large surfaces of the battery cells to effectively prevent the spread of thermal runaway. The integrated liquid cooling plate covers 100% of the bottom of the battery cell, manages battery heat dissipation and temperature control through intelligent algorithms, and ensures battery performance and safety in real time, eliminating the risk of fire and explosion.
It is worth mentioning that the Star Era ES is also the first model to obtain the "NESTA Six-Dimension Electric Safety" certification of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's new energy vehicle electric safety technology verification system, which fully covers multiple dimensions including charging safety, electromagnetic safety, functional safety, high-voltage safety, battery safety, and fire safety. It is even equipped with an E-CALL emergency rescue function, which can trigger rescue after a collision. The rescue platform provides rescue services such as alarm, 24-hour rescue, and automatic call back, making it a well-deserved multi-dimensional safety.
With its all-round hard-core safety capabilities, the 2025 Star Era ES has proven to the industry and users that its safety performance far exceeds the national standards. As Chery Group's latest masterpiece in the field of high-end new energy vehicles, the 2025 Star Era ES also has outstanding performance in intelligence and driving control, and will surely bring users a better car experience and set a new benchmark for China's high-end new energy vehicles.
