the king port project was laid and named by king salman himself. it is an important part of saudi arabia's "vision 2030" national reform plan. after completion, the project will become the world's largest "super shipyard", providing offshore drilling platforms and commercial ships. and offshore service vessels providing engineering, fabrication and repair services.
dry docks no. 4 and no. 5 are designed and installed with four single-girder, large-tonnage, and long-span gantry cranes. they are the largest single equipment with the highest value in the project translocation contract, and are also the key core equipment of the project. among them, no. 4 dry dock consists of a 1,600-ton and a 500-ton giant gantry crane. the 1,600-ton giant gantry crane has a net lifting height of 113.5 meters, ranking first in the world. its combined lifting capacity is 2,100 tons, ranking among the top in the world. dry dock no. 5 is equipped with two 500-ton giant gantry cranes, with a net lifting height of 83 meters and a combined lifting capacity of 1,000 tons. after being put into use, the four gantry cranes will be mainly used for hoisting large components such as hull sections and boarding towers. they have the functions of lifting, hoisting, segmented aerial flipping and aerial horizontal micro-rotation. they will build 4 drilling platforms per year for the port. and more than 40 very large tankers, suezmax ships, panamax ships, and handy-size ships to provide strong support.
this is the first time that such a huge lifting equipment has been installed in the middle east. seaside geological conditions, high temperature weather, strong winds, and complex installation procedures make gantry crane lifting full of uncertainties. in order to ensure the smooth lifting of the gantry crane, the company has established a giant gantry crane lifting safety technical guarantee leading group and a special work class to coordinate domestic and foreign senior lifting technical experts to conduct multiple discussions and simulated lifting on lifting plans, technical measures, safety measures, etc. in particular, the key steps and core data were repeatedly calculated and checked, and it was decided to adopt the plan of giant lifting tower lifting and computer-controlled hydraulic lifting system. the expert team conducted multiple demonstrations on safety measures such as lifting towers, ground anchors, hydraulic cylinders, and computer control systems. during the hoisting process, fully automatic synchronous lifting, load balancing, attitude correction, stress control, operation locking, and process were realized. display and fault alarm functions ensure that the giant gantry crane is safely lifted into place. the foundation piles of the lifting tower are 36 meters deep into the ground to form a solid support. the 372 steel strands on the upper part of the lifting tower each have a load-bearing capacity of 18 tons. every time a certain height is raised, the project department adopts a static method to monitor the load data to ensure that the tower, ground anchors and other equipment are working properly, ensuring that the lifting process is controllable and under control.
