"china-africa economic and trade cooperation is an important cornerstone of china-africa cooperation. in recent years, it has achieved fruitful results and provided strong support for china and africa to jointly promote modernization. china and africa should work more closely together to promote economic and trade cooperation to a deeper level and a higher level." on the morning of september 6, the 8th china-africa entrepreneurs conference co-organized by the china council for the promotion of international trade and the ministry of commerce was held in beijing. about 1,000 african leaders, representatives of chinese and african entrepreneurs, and representatives of relevant international organizations and institutions gathered in beijing to exchange ideas and share opportunities.
as an important supporting event for the 2024 forum on china-africa cooperation summit and the highest-level economic and trade event for the chinese and african business community under the framework of the forum, all parties in china and africa have actively registered for this entrepreneurs conference, and the number of applicants far exceeded expectations. the participating companies cover a wide range of industries, including representatives from traditional industries such as energy, mining, and infrastructure, as well as representatives from emerging industries such as electronic technology, communication satellites, and biomedicine; there are well-known leading companies in various fields in china and africa, as well as a considerable number of small and medium-sized enterprises.
in response to hot issues of common concern to the business communities of china and africa, the conference set up two topics: "promoting the integration of industrial chains and supply chains" and "promoting the development of emerging industries". twelve chinese and african entrepreneurs shared their successful experiences in cooperation during the special speeches, explored the cooperation opportunities brought about by the new initiatives of this summit, and engaged in dialogue and discussion on how to deepen practical cooperation between the two sides' enterprises.
in terms of promoting the integration of industrial chains and supply chains, china is a major developing country with the most complete industrial chain in the world, and africa is the continent with the highest concentration of developing countries in the world. china and africa have strong complementarity in industrial chains and supply chains.
"we are grateful to china for not only helping us improve the power generation performance of our existing coal-fired power plants, but also providing us with smart distribution technology and renewable energy power generation technology. this not only ensures the safety of south africa's electricity use, but also helps south africa transform to a green and low-carbon power generation model. we have an urgent need for technical support in this regard." the words of gratitude expressed by dan mallorkani, president of south african electricity company, at the meeting coincided with the views expressed by many african business representatives.
"south africa and many au countries have introduced development plans for digital economy, clean energy and other areas. i believe that under the guidance of the framework of the agenda 2063 adopted at this summit, there will be a lot of room for cooperation between africa and china in the development of clean energy in the future," said dan mallorcani.
"china-africa industrial cooperation is highly complementary and of great significance for maintaining the stability and smooth operation of the global industrial chain and supply chain and promoting the development of the world economy. in particular, with the rapid development of emerging technologies such as digitalization and artificial intelligence, and the continuous evolution of green, low-carbon and sustainable development methods, the successful convening of the new beijing summit of the forum on china-africa cooperation will surely provide new opportunities and inject new impetus into china-africa cooperation in the new era." as one of the earliest chinese companies to enter and take root in africa, dai hegen, member of the national committee of the chinese people's political consultative conference and chairman of china railway construction corporation limited, issued an invitation on behalf of chinese infrastructure companies to work with partners from all walks of life in africa to deepen pragmatic cooperation, achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, and make contributions to the chinese and african business communities in building an all-weather china-africa community with a shared future in the new era.
china nonferrous metals group was established in 1983. since entering the african market in 1998, it has always adhered to the principle of extensive consultation, joint construction and sharing, carried out china-africa cooperation in a pragmatic manner, and is committed to building a china-africa community with a shared future in the new era. zhang jinjun, general manager of china nonferrous mining group co., ltd., said at the meeting, "we will solidly implement the results of the meeting, lead the industrial chain with the innovation chain, drive the supply chain with the industrial chain, and fully promote the industrialization and modernization process in africa."
"africa has a population of 1.4 billion, more than half of whom are under the age of 25, making it the youngest continent in the world. how to transform africa's abundant human resources into dividends that promote the development of emerging industries? on the one hand, we must strengthen the introduction of talents, and on the other hand, we must pay more attention to talent training and increase the training of local talents in various fields." as one of the representative companies of china's digital technology industry, lei jun, founder, chairman and ceo of xiaomi group, shared three points of understanding with african representatives on how to promote the development of emerging industries in his speech: we must persist in scientific and technological innovation, strengthen talent training in various fields, and persist in open cooperation and ecological development.
he introduced that under a series of china-africa cooperation initiatives, xiaomi has currently conducted business in 16 african countries including egypt, south africa, nigeria, morocco, algeria, and kenya, and will increase investment in the african continent in the next step. "africa's economic growth rate is higher than the global average and has attracted worldwide attention. the construction of the african continental free trade area has promoted cross-border trade cooperation and market integration, especially many african countries have introduced policies to support green transformation. china and african countries are good friends and good partners. i hope that the spirit of china-africa friendly cooperation can be deeply embedded in the exchanges and cooperation between chinese and african entrepreneurs, so that we can discuss and create development opportunities together and work together to achieve win-win cooperation."
during their speeches, chinese and african entrepreneurs also expressed their visions for the future development of both sides in the field of emerging industries. "i believe that in the future, chinese consumers will be able to learn more about high-quality products from zimbabwe through xiaoyi, the smart assistant of huawei mobile phones. zimbabwe has abundant reserves of lithium batteries used in new energy vehicles produced in china. i hope that in the future, not only will zimbabwean consumers be able to drive new energy vehicles produced in china, but zimbabwe and china will also be able to find more points of cooperation in the new energy industry." alan majuru, ceo of the zimbabwe trade promotion council, envisioned.
li zixue, chairman of zte corporation, which is also from china's emerging mobile internet digital industry, did not forget to encourage african partners in his speech, "i hope that this 5g tablet in my hand will be labeled as made in africa in the near future!" in his view, there is a lot of room for cooperation between china and africa in emerging industries. "although african countries started digital development relatively late, they have been highly valued in recent years and have broad prospects. i believe that with the support and guidance of policies, africa's digitalization process in e-commerce, finance, e-government and other fields will be "multi-point" in the future, and will also serve as a new development engine to inject new impetus into the development of china-africa digital economy."
the lively dialogue and discussion made the chinese and african entrepreneurs at the conference forget the wheel of time. when the chinese clock pointed to 13:35, ren hongbin, president of the china council for the promotion of international trade, walked onto the podium to deliver the closing speech. he was impressed by the strong willingness of chinese and african entrepreneurs participating in this china-africa entrepreneurs conference to cooperate. after leaving the venue, the reporter noticed that many african entrepreneurs had no time to eat, and were involved in the face-to-face negotiation platform with chinese companies set up by the organizers of the conference. the good wish of making the "cake" of cooperation with chinese companies bigger and bigger, and letting the results of cooperation benefit more people on both sides, is being injected into every bit of action during the trip to china.
