this is not only the first gold medal won by chongqing athlete yan zhiqiang at the paralympic games, but also the first gold medal ever won by china in the paralympic hard court bowling team event. so far, chongqing athletes have won four gold medals at the paris paralympic games.
yan zhiqiang is from beibei and is currently the captain of the chinese national disabled boccia team. despite severe impairment of speech and movement, he has achieved extraordinary results in disabled boccia with his firm will and tenacious fighting spirit.
yan zhiqiang has participated in the paralympic games many times, and won the 4th place in the hard court bowls mixed team at the 2008 beijing paralympic games; two silver medals in the hard court bowls team and individual events at the 2012 london paralympic games; the bronze medal in the hard court bowls individual event at the 2016 rio paralympic games; and the silver medal in the hard court bowls bc1-2 team event at the 2021 tokyo paralympic games.
