On August 22, the head of the Department of E-commerce of the Ministry of Commerce introduced the development of China's e-commerce from January to July this year. Overall, from January to July, online retail promoted steady growth in consumption, platform companies accelerated technology and business model innovation, e-commerce promoted the digital transformation and upgrading of industries, and international cooperation in the field of e-commerce achieved mutual benefit and win-win results.
New momentum for online consumption continues to gather. From January to July, the national online retail sales reached 8.38 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.5%. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 7.01 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.7%. Digital consumption, service consumption and old-for-new policy measures have created new momentum for online consumption. According to business big data monitoring, micro-single cameras, smart home systems and mobile phones increased by 22.5%, 20.9% and 15.5%, respectively, and online service consumption on key platforms increased by 20.2%, among which online travel and online catering increased by 51.1% and 20.8%.
Platform technology and model innovations continue to emerge. For the first time, cloud broadcasting by Chinese platform companies has become the main broadcasting method for the Olympic Games, helping the digital transformation of the Olympic Games. Video platforms have innovated the "sports + e-commerce" business model, integrating event broadcasting, brand cooperation and product sales. Major e-commerce platforms have accelerated the launch of artificial intelligence operation tools.
E-commerce promotes the digital transformation of various industries. Promote the digitalization of agricultural production and marketing, and "digital business to promote agriculture" to select high-quality products and cultivate high-quality products in central and western regions such as Hubei, Hunan, and Ningxia. According to business big data monitoring, online retail sales of agricultural products increased by 20.1% from January to July. Promote the digitalization of industrial enterprise procurement, and the transaction volume of key industry e-commerce platforms increased by 4.8%. Promote the digitalization of life service industries, and the sales of housekeeping, laundry, and hairdressing on major platforms increased by 46.4%, 45%, and 43.6%.
International cooperation on the Silk Road e-commerce is mutually beneficial and win-win. The Shanghai "Silk Road e-commerce" cooperation pilot zone has made new progress in "shaping rules, sharing markets, and building capabilities". The 26 "Silk Road e-commerce" partner countries' national pavilions exhibited more than 15,000 kinds of goods from various countries, and the electronic bill of lading solution of Chinese companies was adopted by international shipping companies for the first time. Fresh e-commerce platforms have established direct fruit and vegetable procurement bases in partner countries such as Vietnam and Thailand, becoming a new channel for local agricultural products to be exported to China. From January to July, sales of Thai durian and Vietnamese cashews on Chinese e-commerce platforms increased by 48.6% and 41.4% respectively.
"Since the beginning of this year, the consumer market has generally shown a steady growth trend, with traditional consumption steadily expanding, new consumption developing rapidly, and service consumption expanding and improving, providing strong support for the economic recovery." He Yadong, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, said that the consumer market mainly showed characteristics such as stable growth momentum, many consumption highlights, and strong market vitality. It is expected that with the accelerated implementation of policy measures such as increasing support for the replacement of old consumer goods with new ones and promoting high-quality development of service consumption, and the continuous and in-depth development of various consumption promotion activities, the overall consumer market will continue to recover.
