BYD, a well-known automaker in China and around the world, has recently made new moves. Mega Motors CEO Kamran Kamal said they plan to build 20-25 dealerships across the country in the first three years and have one-third of Pakistanis drive BYD cars within five years. BYD plans to open a car assembly plant in Karachi and build electric vehicle charging stations in major cities and along highways, he said.The plant will become Pakistan's first new energy vehicle assembly plant and is scheduled to begin operations in 2026.

BYD's ambitions do not stop there. They have already established factories in many countries and regions around the world, including 32 cities in China and 8 countries abroad. In Thailand, BYD has established its first wholly-owned overseas passenger car factory, which is expected to start operation in 2024 with an annual production capacity of about 150,000 vehicles. Moreover, BYD's new energy vehicles have been sold to more than 70 countries and regions and more than 400 cities around the world, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 2.2 million vehicles.

BYD's sales in overseas markets are also growing. In 2023, BYD's global new energy vehicle sales accounted for 22% of the market share, beating Tesla to become the fastest growing brand. In 2024, BYD plans to launch factories in Brazil and Thailand to continue to expand its influence in overseas markets.

BYD is also making big moves in Hungary. In December 2023, BYD announced that it would build a new energy vehicle production base in Szeged, Hungary. This is the first time that a Chinese automobile company has built a passenger car factory in the EU. The factory will be completed and put into operation within three years, mainly producing passenger car models sold in Europe. It is expected to create thousands of jobs locally and promote Hungary's green economic transformation.

Chinese car companies and even Chinese companies should move in this direction. Making money from your own people is not a skill. The real skill is to develop good products, sell them overseas at high prices, make money from foreigners, and then bring the money back to China to continue developing new products.
