As the summer vacation draws to a close, the topic "Who is buying empty milk cartons and empty pen refills in large quantities" has recently become a hot search on Weibo. How did these household wastes, such as "empty milk cartons" and "empty pen refills", become popular commodities? It turns out that they are bought by students or their parents to cope with school inspections after the start of the semester - empty milk cartons are used to complete environmental protection homework; the number of empty pen refills is directly linked to the seriousness of students' studies.
The original intention of asking students to collect, clean and organize milk cartons is to help them develop environmental awareness in the process. However, not every family has the habit of drinking milk, and the amount of milk consumed is different. Environmental education is not limited to collecting empty milk cartons. When it becomes a task that pursues a single form, the original intention of environmental protection will be obscured. Once "handing in empty milk cartons" becomes a homework task and "the hero is judged by the number", it is inevitable to take shortcuts, which will lead to waste.
The same is true for "handing in empty refills". No matter how many refills are used, it does not mean that the student's learning ability is high. When a student was interviewed by the media, he admitted that the school began to require the handing in of refills when he was in the third year of junior high school. "The teacher doesn't care whether your refills are real or fake, as long as there are enough refills." In fact, there is no necessary logical connection between the number of empty refills and the degree of hard work. Such a forced direct connection makes people wonder: who is fooling whom, the student or the teacher?
The hot sales of empty milk cartons and empty pen refills are actually due to homework formalism, which is the "hollowness" of education. A truly dedicated education is not just about assigning homework to students, which will make these educations remain at the conceptual level. What's more frightening is that formalistic homework is openly teaching children to cheat, which runs counter to the purpose of educating people. Education is not only about imparting knowledge, but also about cultivating morality and shaping personality. It is a project of the soul. Formalism without heart will inevitably lead to "empty-handedness" in the end.
