On August 12, the Marjan oil and gas gathering and transportation platform of Saudi Arabian Aramco, built by Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC), a subsidiary of CNOOC, was completed and delivered in Qingdao, Shandong. This is the heaviest and most powerful international offshore oil and gas platform delivered by my country, marking a new breakthrough in Chinese companies' international offshore oil and gas engineering construction capabilities, which is of great significance for the high-quality promotion of "Belt and Road" oil and gas cooperation.
It is reported that the Mazan platform completed and delivered this time is an 8-legged offshore oil and gas gathering and transportation platform, which is mainly responsible for collecting and transporting the extracted offshore oil and gas to land for processing. It can collect and transport 24 million tons of crude oil and 7.4 billion cubic meters of associated gas every year. It is one of the offshore platforms with the strongest crude oil gathering and transportation capacity in the world. The platform weighs more than 17,200 tons, equivalent to the total weight of 17,000 cars, is more than 24 stories high, and has a deck area equivalent to about 15 basketball courts. The total length of the applied cables can circle the Fifth Ring Road of Beijing 2 and a half times. The large size and complex types of applied pipelines set records for similar platforms. The platform will serve in the Mazan oilfield production increase and development project under Saudi Aramco. After the oilfield is put into production as a whole, it will become the offshore oilfield with the largest oil and gas processing capacity in the world.
According to Liu Rui, general manager of COOEC International Engineering Company and project manager of Mazan, COOEC is responsible for platform construction, pre-commissioning, and loading. The platform is large in scale and highly integrated. It is built using the most stringent international standards, and has extremely demanding requirements for construction plans, operating procedures, safety and quality. There are more than 2,000 quality specifications alone, which poses a huge challenge to project implementation. Since the start of construction in October 2021, the project team has overcome many difficulties such as the COVID-19 pandemic, delayed equipment arrival, and technological gaps, independently developed an intelligent management platform, innovated the "integration + visualization" construction model, and applied advanced technologies such as automatic welding of composite materials and phased array ultrasonic inspection on a large scale. The construction efficiency, quality pass rate, and safety performance have all reached the world's advanced level.
