In the tide of globalization and informatization, the commercial aerospace industry has become an important indicator for measuring a country's scientific and technological strength and innovation capabilities. However, facing multiple challenges such as international competition, technical bottlenecks, capital investment and policy environment, China's commercial aerospace industry urgently needs to effectively integrate the resources of the Yangtze River Delta region and give full play to the advantages of the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor to achieve rapid development.

At the 2021 Yangtze River Delta G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor High-Quality Development Elements Docking Conference, the "Thousand Sails Constellation" plan was officially released, and the construction of the "G60 Starlink" industrial base was launched in Songjiang, Shanghai. The "Thousand Sails Constellation" adopts a full-band, multi-layer, multi-orbit constellation design, including a third-generation satellite system. This strategic layout aims to build a commercial satellite network with global coverage, providing high-speed, low-latency Internet services. This move will not only promote China's satellite technology innovation and the transformation of the commercial aerospace industry chain, but will also create a large number of high-tech employment opportunities. At the same time, the continuous development of the commercial aerospace industry can also provide network coverage for remote areas and developing countries, achieve information equality, and narrow the digital divide.

The successful launch of the first batch of satellites in the “Thousand Sails Constellation” project fully demonstrated the important role of the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor in the Yangtze River Delta in promoting the development of the commercial aerospace industry.

First, the Yangtze River Delta has significant advantages in key areas such as high-end manufacturing, electronic information and new materials, providing strong scientific and research support for the development of the commercial aerospace industry. In order to transform from the traditional heavy satellite manufacturing model to a light, low-cost, mass production model to meet the needs of high-density launches, the "Thousand Sails Constellation" design team relied on the talent and technical resources of many top research and educational institutions in the Yangtze River Delta region to innovatively develop integrated aluminum alloy casting technology, which significantly improved the performance of the satellite structure.

Secondly, the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor provides a good market environment and policy support for the development of commercial aerospace industries such as the "Thousand Sails Constellation" through an organizational coordination mechanism that combines market orientation and government guidance. The "Shanghai Action Plan for Promoting Commercial Space Development and Building a Space Information Industry Highland (2023-2025)" released in 2023 and the "Three-Year Action Plan for Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta Region (2024-2026)" released last month both emphasized the importance of accelerating the construction of the G60 satellite Internet industry cluster and provided strong policy support for it.

In addition, relying on its strong economic strength and regional coordinated development strategy, the Yangtze River Delta has integrated the advantageous resources of cities along the route, built a "1+7+N" industrial alliance system, a cross-regional industrial collaborative innovation center, a G60 science and technology innovation cloud element docking platform and other cooperation carriers, and built a high-quality development platform for the development of commercial aviation.

At the same time, it should be noted that although the commercial aerospace industry has broad prospects, the road to the market is not smooth. Faced with fierce global competition, international giants such as SpaceX's "Starlink" project have occupied a certain market share. The "Thousand Sails Constellation" plan must not only accurately grasp market demand, but also provide differentiated services to establish its own market position.

At the technical level, the construction and operation of satellite networks involve many technical challenges, including key areas such as satellite on-orbit services, autonomous management, and network security. These challenges require the "Thousand Sails Constellation" program to invest corresponding R&D resources to ensure continuous technological innovation and the reliability of satellite systems.

At the management level, building an efficient project management and operation system is also crucial. If the Yangtze River Delta "Thousand Sails Constellation" plan is to succeed in the commercial aerospace industry, it must conduct in-depth analysis of the market and competitors, continue to explore and establish a set of efficient management and operation mechanisms, improve operational efficiency, cope with various challenges, and achieve sustainable development.
