Callisto cost four times as much as Dead Space and was intended to be a franchise

According to gamesradar, Glen Schofield, co-founder of Dead Space and former director of Callisto Protocol, recently accepted an interview with the media and discussed the reasons why Callisto Protocol did not meet commercial expectations.


Glen Schofield revealed: "The Callisto Protocol cost about four times as much to make as Dead Space. However, I don't think it took that much. What Callisto really needed was more development time."


He added: "I would have liked to have gotten an extra three and a half months out of the development cycle for Callisto Protocol, instead of being pushed by the publisher to get it out in a hurry. It costs you more money because if I had continued with the original plan, I wouldn't have needed to hire extra people. But if the publisher wants me to finish the work ahead of time, I have to hire more people. For example, I needed 20 people before, but now I need 30 or even 40 people because the time is ahead of time."

Glen Schofield also revealed that after the release of Callisto Protocol, a new DLC was planned, but it was ignored by the top management. The team could only release some updates to improve the game and fill in the gaps that should have been solved before the release. Glen Schofield also believes that Callisto Protocol has the potential to get a sequel. The team has discussed making it a series rather than a project that can recover all costs in one release.


Glen Schofield said his final year at Striking Distance Studios was the worst of his career: "There was a lot of pressure on us to go public, the board and everybody else, they put pressure on us. I remember after the project was over, I had lost over 60 pounds. If I could go back and change one thing about the production, I would ask for more time."
