Late at night on August 9th, Beijing time, the women's rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around final of the Paris Olympics ended at the La Chapelle Stadium. Chinese athlete Wang Zilu ranked seventh and missed out on a medal, but created the best result for China in the history of the Olympic rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around competition.
The rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around competition consists of four events: hoop, ball, club and ribbon. In the Paris Olympics rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around preliminaries, Wang Zilu, who was stepping into the Olympic arena for the first time, scored 34.200 points, 32.000 points, 30.650 points and 31.250 points respectively, with a total score of 128.100 points, ranking 10th and successfully advancing to the finals. This is the first time that a Chinese rhythmic gymnast has entered the Olympic individual all-around finals.
In the first round of hoop gymnastics, accompanied by thrilling and suspenseful music, Wang Zilu relied on high precision, high physical difficulty, and every turn was stuck on the beat, finally getting a high score of 35.250 points. In the second round of ball gymnastics, she always kept the ball balanced on her abdomen, but there was a small mistake in catching the ball, and she scored 32.700 points.
In the third round of club gymnastics, with the accompaniment of "Qin Wang Po Zhen Yue", Wang Zilu performed four consecutive reverse cross-back bends, Ala C-bar twists, etc., and ended the movements with the posture of "drawing the bow", and scored 34.300 points. In the fourth round, with the accompaniment of "Drunk Taiping", Wang Zilu, as a girl who grew up practicing Chinese folk dance, brought Chinese style dance to the world and made the world recognize Chinese folk dance again, but due to mistakes, she only scored 29.300 points, and the final total score was 131.550, ranking seventh, and missed the medal, but created the best result in the history of China's individual all-around competition in the Olympic rhythmic gymnastics.
Wang Zilu was born in Xi'an, Shaanxi in 2003. She was selected for the national training team in 2013. In 2016, she won the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual Championship Youth Individual Ribbon Championship. In 2021, she won the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships and the 14th National Games Rhythmic Gymnastics Qualifying Individual Ribbon Championship. In 2023, she won the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships Qualifying Adult Individual Ring, Ball, Club and Ribbon Championships. In the same year, she won the third place in the individual all-around event of the 14th Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. In 2024, she won the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup Athens Station Championship and the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships Individual All-Around Championship.
