On August 1, Tesla announced that its 10 millionth electric drive system in the world has rolled off the production line at Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory, marking the first "10 million" milestone moment.

Tesla's electric drive system is developed and produced by Tesla itself, and one electric drive system can be produced every five seconds around the world. Each electric drive system integrates three major parts: motor, gearbox, and motor controller. It is the powerful heart of Tesla electric vehicles and a key component of "Tesla power".

As an important component of electric vehicles, the electric drive system is one of the core technologies of electric vehicles. The electric drive system converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, which directly affects the performance and range of electric vehicles. From the first-generation Roadster to the globally popular Model 3 and Model Y, the powerful electric drive system makes every Tesla model a "performance car". Tesla pioneered silver sintering technology, flat wire technology, silicon carbide power chip, electronic oil pump, as well as the three-in-one system of motor/controller/gearbox, and the integrated design of gearbox lubrication and motor cooling, which makes Tesla's "heart" powerful and meets the different driving habits and road conditions of global consumers.

The new generation of high-performance electric drive system installed in the new Model 3 High Performance Edition has a power increase of more than 20% compared with the previous generation of electric drive system. At a speed of 80-100 kilometers per hour, its electric drive efficiency is as high as over 97%. Therefore, the new Model 3 High Performance Edition accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers in just 3.1 seconds and travels nearly 8 kilometers per kilowatt-hour, bringing consumers a high-efficiency travel experience.

Tesla said that this is the result of close cooperation among Tesla's global engineering teams. Not only is the electric drive system powerful, but its production line is also efficient and economical. Compared with the first generation Model S, the cost of the electric drive system has been reduced to half.

Behind the technology is Tesla's increasing investment in research and development and production. According to statistics, from 2011 to 2023, Tesla's R&D investment increased 18 times, with an annual compound growth rate of 27.8%. In 2023, the total R&D investment reached US$3.969 billion (about RMB 28.4 billion), an increase of nearly 29.07% year-on-year, setting a record high.

The launch of the 10 million electric drive system not only marks the benchmark status of Tesla's three-electric technology and the continuous improvement of production and manufacturing efficiency, but also represents its hard-core product strength that is widely recognized by consumers around the world.
