According to GamesRadar+, Star Wars: Outlaws will have a GTA-like wanted system that will allow players to create chaos in the game and create additional challenges for themselves.

As part of the media's behind-the-scenes look at the development team's studio in Malmö, Sweden, Lead Designer Matthieu Delisle and Lead Game Designer Fredrick Thylander spoke to the media and explained how players will be able to "adjust the difficulty to suit their play style needs" and increase their wanted level for more fun.

“It’s definitely rewarding to get to level 6 and see if you can survive,” Delisle said. “Spoiler alert, it’s really hard, especially at the beginning of the game, but it works really well as a game-ending challenge for yourself, and it’s a completely different experience depending on what planet you’re on. Empires exist differently on different planets and regions of the universe. The same thing goes for criminal organizations.”

He then described that players may be wanted by the Empire or other criminal groups, and that multiple organizations may be chasing players at the same time. He described this as the player's "ultimate open world amusement park type challenge added by themselves." When players no longer want to be wanted, Delisle confirmed that there are also various tools in the game to help players restore their reputation, so players don't need to be too cautious and can create chaos at any time.

However, Thylander explained that while there is a reputation system that affects the player's standing with the criminal group, the wanted system is mainly used to show the relationship between the player character and the empire: "You can never live in peace."

Delisle concludes: "We wanted to draw a line in the sand and not have Kay be a partner to the Empire. So we wanted something that was more reflective of them being the rule and you being a thief, a villain, a breaker of their strict rules. They're trying to be the law and you're trying to be the element of chaos. So we thought it would be fun to play a villain-type character against them. And that allowed for a lot of tense moments that made your palms sweat."

Thylander added: "The wanted system has become a toy." Delisle agreed, saying: "Absolutely. It's a toy that you can play with and push to the limit."

Star Wars: Outlaws will be released on August 30th.
