according to employees, the hotel currently has more than 100 employees. since a year or two ago, there have been intermittent salary payments or monthly salary payments. up to now, the accumulated salary arrears for employees ranges from 9 to 11 months, plus the unpaid social security and provident fund, the amount exceeds 6 million yuan.

zhao huanyan, a senior economist in the tourism and hotel industry, said in an interview with the daily economic news that the fundamental reason for the various phenomena such as transfer and closure in the hotel industry is that there is oversupply in the industry, leading to operational difficulties.

employees claim that their wages have been in arrears for nearly a year

li li (pseudonym), an employee who has worked at the hotel for more than ten years, told the reporter of daily economic news that he received a public notice issued by the hotel on the afternoon of september 19. the notice shows that the management contract between huizhou golden goose hot spring industrial co., ltd. and six continents hotel management (shanghai) co., ltd. for huizhou intercontinental resort hotel will expire on september 20, 2024, and the project will no longer be operated as an intercontinental hotel after the contract expires. from october 1, 2024, the intercontinental resort hotel of huizhou golden goose hot spring industrial co., ltd. will temporarily enter a state of suspension of business, and the project's operating qualifications and hardware facilities will be rectified and reorganized until it meets the conditions for reopening and operation. it is expected to be closed for three months.

according to the official website and ota platform of huizhou intercontinental resort, the hotel opened in 2009, covers an area of ​​over 1,200 acres and has nearly 200 rooms.

li li introduced that the hotel currently has more than 100 employees. since 2023, there have been intermittent salary payments or combined payments for several months. according to the bank account flow provided by li li, his salary for august 2023 was paid at the end of december 2023. since 2024, li li has received a total of 4 months of salary. it was not until august 2024 that he received the salary for december 2023. the salary for january to august 2024 has not been received yet.

regarding the wage arrears, the reporter also received confirmation from other hotel employees that their experiences were similar to li li's, and most of them were owed 9-11 months' salary. a statistical table of the deregistration expenses of the huizhou intercontinental resort hotel provided by the hotel employees showed that as of august 2024, the total amount of wages, social security and provident funds owed to employees was more than 6 million yuan.

it is understood that the huizhou intercontinental resort hotel was once a hot business with 500 to 600 employees. however, later on, business became worse and worse, and the number of employees continued to decrease. li li also thought about the reason. many guests complained that the hotel was not worthy of its reputation after checking in. the fundamental reason was that the hotel had been in operation for a long time. although it was partially renovated in 2017, the hardware and software facilities were too old and did not meet the needs of current consumers.

industry insiders: hotel industry is already oversupplied
