recently, the construction of xinbao gate, a key control project for flood control in beijing wenyu river park, started. as the "last switch" to keep floods in the park, after the completion of the gate, the park will initially achieve a designed flood storage capacity of 12 million cubic meters.

"wenyu river park is planned to have a flood control pattern of 'one area, three rivers and six sluices and weirs', among which xinbao sluice is the most critical control sluice among the six sluices and weirs." li wenyu from the beijing wenyu river park coordination group office introduced that xinbao sluice is located about 2km downstream of the estuary where qinghe river enters wenyu river. floodwaters from wenyu river and qinghe river upstream enter the park, and after being regulated by xinbao sluice, flow through three flood diversion channels of qinghe river and enter the flood storage area of ​​the park, thus achieving the function of regulating and storing floodwaters. "xinbao sluice is planned to be completed before the flood season next year. after it is put into operation, it will ensure that the park can initially achieve the designed flood storage scale of 12 million cubic meters." li wenyu said.

it is understood that as the "upper storage" space of the tongzhou weir's "upper storage, middle drainage, and lower drainage" flood control system, wenyu river park plays an important role in flood control and disaster reduction in the north grand canal basin. the "wenyu river park control detailed plan" clearly states that in combination with the flood control dispatching of the flood storage and detention area, the functions of the existing dams will be optimized, the existing xinbao gate will be renovated, and the xinbao gate will be used to uniformly dispatch floods, so as to improve the flood control benefits of wenyu river park for the urban sub-center downstream of the north grand canal.

xinbao sluice gate was first built in 1972 and rebuilt in 2012. the old gate was only used as a daily water barrier and did not have a discharge control function, which could not meet the flood control and scheduling needs of the wenyu river and the flood storage area. after the second phase of the wenyu river park water conservancy project entered full construction, the original site demolition and reconstruction of xinbao sluice gate was launched, so that it has complex functions such as precise discharge control and water resource scheduling to meet the park's flood control and water resource scheduling needs.

the project starts from the wenyu river bridge on the beijing-chengde expressway in the north and ends at the sunhe bridge on the beijing-mi road in the south. it is 10.1 kilometers long. the main construction contents include the improvement of water conservancy facilities, the optimization of flood control layout, the construction of a 20-kilometer green slow-moving system using the river patrol road, and the addition of an 18-kilometer waterfront trail. "in terms of gate pier construction, we use standardized steamed wooden formwork, which can not only achieve template standardization, but also facilitate construction and greatly save costs." hou zhenzhen, director of the wenyu river ecological governance project construction supervision department, pointed out that the xinbao gate project faces many construction difficulties. the problems of seepage in the construction area, crack control of large-volume concrete, and insulation of winter construction have brought considerable challenges to the project team. in order to overcome these difficulties, the project office adheres to the principle of "pre-emptive problems and prepare for a rainy day", seizes the golden period of construction, repeatedly demonstrates and carefully polishes the design and construction plan, and introduces new technologies such as standardized steamed wooden formwork to effectively improve construction efficiency and ensure project quality.

as an integral part of the internal facilities of the wenyu river park, the design of the xinbao gate fully complies with the construction concept of the park's natural ecology. fish-passing facilities are arranged in combination with the sluice energy dissipation pool, which is conducive to the ecological connectivity of the river and the reproduction and migration of fish. it not only lays the foundation for the connectivity of the river system in the basin, but also promotes the development of biodiversity in the wenyu river system and promotes the improvement of the ecological value of the basin.

the planning and design of xinbao gate also fully considered the needs of slow traffic on both sides of the river. on the basis of meeting the operation and maintenance of the sluice gate, a cross-river traffic bridge was arranged in the curves upstream and downstream of the gate, and it was promoted in parallel with the cross-river slow greenway bridge, realizing the dual functions of flood control dispatch and sightseeing and leisure of the engineering facilities.

after the project is completed, the wenyu river will be built into a comprehensive river integrating flood control, ecology, landscape and leisure, providing citizens with more abundant water-friendly spaces and green leisure places.
