the arbitration system is my country's basic legal system and an important part of the rule of law involving foreign affairs. today, the ministry of justice reported on the overall situation of arbitration work across the country.

as of now, my country has established 282 arbitration institutions with more than 60,000 arbitrators. it has handled more than 5 million cases with a total amount of more than 8 trillion yuan. the parties involved are from more than 100 countries and regions around the world, providing high-quality, efficient and professional legal services and guarantees for high-quality economic development and high-level opening up to the outside world.

among them, in 2023, arbitration institutions across the country handled a total of 607,000 arbitration cases, a year-on-year increase of 27.8%, with a total amount of 1,160.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.66%. there were more than 3,100 foreign-related cases, a year-on-year increase of 8.28%, and a foreign-related amount of 170 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 42.29%.

the scope of the cases covers many fields including economic trade, engineering construction, finance and insurance, transportation, real estate transactions, agricultural production and management, internet economy, intellectual property rights, etc.

give full play to the important role of arbitration in the diversified dispute resolution mechanism. set up specialized institutions such as commercial mediation centers, establish a roster of mediators, and continuously improve the arbitration and mediation capabilities and levels. in 2023, arbitration institutions across the country closed 194,000 cases through mediation and settlement, accounting for 36.5% of the total number of closed cases, an increase of 16.67% year-on-year.

carry out the training of foreign-related arbitration talents. in 2022, the ministry of justice, together with the ministry of education, issued the "notice on the implementation of the foreign-related arbitration talent training program", made specific arrangements for strengthening the training of foreign-related arbitration talents, and proposed a "three thousand people" talent training plan. since 2022, the ministry of justice has continued to implement the master of laws (international arbitration) graduate training program in conjunction with the ministry of education, and organized 20 universities such as tsinghua university and peking university to sign joint training agreements with arbitration institutions. currently, more than 800 students have been enrolled nationwide.
