the north city moat is located on the north side of the north second ring road. it runs from the exit of the xinjiekou culvert in the west to the ship lock of the paper mill in the east, and then branches into three branches to merge into the bahe river, liangma river, and the east city moat culvert. it crosses xicheng district and dongcheng district along the way, and the total length of the river is about 5 kilometers. the north city moat waterfront trail along the coast has become a good place for daily walks and sightseeing for the surrounding citizens. citizens walking along the north city moat waterfront trail all the way east can not only see the historical and cultural landscapes such as deshengmen arrow tower, ditan park, and lama temple, but also enjoy the scenery along the river.

"however, due to the construction of municipal roads and bridges in the early years, the north moat waterfront trail was interrupted when it reached andingmen gate, andingmen bridge, lama temple bridge, beixiaojie bridge, dongzhimen north bridge and other places. citizens can only take a detour from the municipal road and cross the bridge, or walk on the motor vehicle lane, which is neither convenient nor safe." bai weihua, deputy chief of the engineering management section of the beijing urban rivers and lakes management office, told reporters.
this year, the north city moat waterfront trail connection project was included in beijing's 2024 important people's livelihood projects. recently, the construction site at anding gate has started first. bai weihua introduced that the connection project mainly connects 8 breakpoints through new trails, trail digging, new plank roads, and new floating bridges.
specifically include: a new trail is built on the north bank of andingmen gate management station, and a new trail and plank road are built on the south bank; a new plank road is built on the north bank of andingmen bridge; a new trail and plank road are built on the north bank of yonghegong bridge, and a new trail is built on the south bank of yonghegong bridge; a new trail, floating bridge and plank road are built on the north bank of beixiaojie bridge, and a new trail and floating bridge are built on the south bank; a new trail is built on dongzhimen north bridge.
"while completing the connection of the waterfront trail, we will also install smart voice light poles along the route, which can timely release information such as river flood conditions and safety reminders, and improve the greening around the newly built trail. the entire project is scheduled to be completed and put into use before the end of november." bai weihua introduced.
