On August 15, the reporter learned from Guangdong Expressway, the owner of Guangdong Transportation Group, that the main construction of five buildings in the Zhishan Service Area (North Area), Guangdong's first "near-zero carbon" new energy service area integrating transportation and energy, has been capped, and 60% of the total budget has been completed. It is expected to be completed and put into operation before the end of the year. By then, the service area will be able to meet the needs of more than 40 new energy vehicles charging at the same time and more than 200 vehicles parking.

Open up the "last mile" of new energy vehicle industry development
In order to further meet the charging needs of new energy vehicles in Guangdong and open up the "last mile" of the development of the new energy vehicle industry, Guangdong Expressway Fokai Expressway officially launched the Zhishan Service Area (North Area) project in 2023. The project is located in the Jiangmen section of the Fokai Expressway, the main line of western Guangdong. Construction will start at the end of December 2023, with a total land area of 79.69 acres and a total construction area of 7,516 square meters.
In the first half of this year, the project was accelerated. In March, the project completed the soft foundation treatment; in June, the main building project was completed; in July, the ramp bridge project was completed. It is planned to complete the installation of the service building's steel structure by the end of August.
According to Zhao Wenxing, the project contractor of the Zhishan Service Area (North District) and director of the Engineering Department of China Railway 11th Bureau, the main building of the service building, logistics building, garage, water and electricity room, garbage room and other five buildings of the Zhishan Service Area (North District) have been capped. Next, the construction unit will step up the construction of the membrane structure of the service building (including decoration engineering) from September to October, improve the pavement engineering and the interior decoration of the building, complete the pavement, photovoltaic storage and charging, traffic safety, electromechanical and greening engineering, and strive to complete the construction and operation before the end of December 2024.
Create Guangdong Province's first "near zero carbon" new energy service area
As a major carbon emitter, the transportation sector has a great significance and imperative to integrate with energy development under the background of the "dual carbon" strategy. The Zhishan Service Area (North Area) project integrates the construction of new energy power generation, new energy storage, and charging and swapping fields. Through the laying of distributed photovoltaic and distributed energy storage facilities, it increases the source of self-use electricity supply for high-speed trunk lines, realizes regional energy substitution, and is committed to building a high-speed trunk line transportation and energy integration industry system to realize the integration, promotion and application of new energy products and technologies in the transportation industry.

The "photovoltaic storage and charging" integration of Zhishan Service Area (North District) is a microgrid system that integrates multiple technologies and elements such as photovoltaic power generation, energy storage batteries, smart charging piles, flexible control, and capacity mutual assistance. The use of source-load interactive flexible interconnection control technology greatly reduces the volatility of system operation and improves operational stability. The system uses solar panels to generate electricity and stores electricity through two sets of energy storage devices. The solar panels will be installed above the parking shed, which can not only provide charging for vehicles but also provide shade and rain protection. The area is 2,600 square meters. The system is planned to operate for 25 years, and the total power generation during the operation period is expected to reach 13.87 million kWh.
It is understood that the Zhishan Service Area (North District) will be built into Guangdong's first "near-zero carbon" new energy service area integrating transportation and energy. When the system is running, photovoltaic power generation will be given priority to charging piles. At the same time, surplus electricity from photovoltaic power generation will be transmitted to the energy storage system for storage, and released when the photovoltaic output is insufficient. This effectively solves the problem of charging and replenishing energy for drivers and passengers driving new energy vehicles on highways, and has good environmental, social and economic benefits.
