Top star, officially announces good news!
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 15th that the giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le, a pair donated by the Central Government to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2007, successfully completed natural mating at Ocean Park in March this year. After a gestation period of nearly 5 months, Ying Ying gave birth to a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, at 2:05 and 3:27 am on the 15th.
The SAR government said that this period is a critical time for the health of the newly born giant panda babies. The Ocean Park's professional animal care team and experts from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda are taking good care of "Ying Ying" and the two babies day and night until their condition is completely stable.
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr John Lee, said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and that Ying Ying and Le Le are the first pair of adorable giant pandas born in Hong Kong, which is of special significance.
Lee Ka-chiu said: “We once again sincerely thank the country for donating giant pandas to the Hong Kong SAR, which fully demonstrates its care and support for the Hong Kong SAR. We also thank the Ocean Park team for their meticulous care of the giant pandas ‘An An’, ‘Jia Jia’, ‘Ying Ying’ and ‘Le Le’ over the years, as well as the experts from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda for their continued support, which enabled the giant pandas ‘Ying Ying’ and ‘Le Le’ to give birth to a pair of twin boys and girls in Hong Kong.”

It is reported that the giant panda Ying Ying began to show symptoms of pregnancy or false pregnancy, such as decreased appetite, increased rest time, and changes in hormone levels, at the end of July this year. Pregnancy in giant pandas is very difficult to detect. The Ocean Park veterinary team and experts from the Panda Center confirmed Ying Ying's pregnancy through an ultrasound scan on August 11. Subsequently, Ying Ying began to show signs of labor, such as frequent activity and irritability, on August 14, and her amniotic fluid broke at about 10 pm.
Yingying, who was giving birth for the first time, was very nervous throughout the whole process, and she kept twisting and turning on the ground for most of the time. With the comfort of the park team and experts from the Panda Center, Yingying gave birth to twins safely at 2:05 and 3:27 in the morning of August 15. The whole delivery process lasted more than 5 hours. The twins were born in the order of a female giant panda baby weighing 122 grams and a male giant panda baby weighing 112 grams.
Ocean Park Corporation Chairman Pang Jianyi said, "Ying Ying is the oldest giant panda in recorded history to successfully give birth for the first time, and the birth of this pair of giant panda babies is a rare case. Ocean Park thanks the park's animal care and veterinary team for their meticulous care of Ying Ying and Le Le, and the Panda Center for its close cooperation with the park over the years, providing professional advice and assistance, so that Ying Ying and Le Le can become parents.
It is reported that the two panda babies are very fragile and need time to stabilize their condition, especially the female baby, which has a lower body temperature, weaker voice and lower food intake after birth. Currently, the two babies are under 24-hour care by the park's nursing and veterinary team and experts from the Panda Center.
