I believe everyone is familiar with the concept of smart cockpit. From the overwhelming leading advertisements of new energy vehicles, people have begun to demand more from various "classmates" and "little x". You should know that five years ago, most people's biggest requirement for car computers was to connect to CarPlay with their mobile phones. Now, car computers can not only watch movies and sing karaoke, but also have voice assistants and even large AI models, which is no less than making a mobile phone and placing it in the car.
Recently, Mercedes-Benz announced that it has signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with Volcano Engine, marking that the two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in cutting-edge technology fields such as big models, generative artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. Both parties will focus on improving multiple core functions of the smart cockpit.
First, with the intention understanding and logical reasoning capabilities of the big model, future virtual assistants will be more intelligent and knowledgeable, and able to provide accurate responses in more complex contexts. For example, when a driver says "I'm hungry", the virtual assistant can understand the intention and make reasonable inferences, thereby providing more considerate suggestions - recommending nearby restaurants and providing navigation.
It is reported that BMW has adopted the Amazon Alexa large language model in its latest generation of BMW intelligent personal assistants. This assistant can provide a more humane interactive experience. Drivers can communicate with the vehicle in many aspects through voice, from vehicle information query to vehicle system control, all of which show the deep application of AI technology. At this year's CES, Volkswagen showcased its first batch of models that integrate the ChatGPT artificial intelligence large language model and IDA voice assistant. These models include classic fuel vehicles such as Tiguan, Passat, and Golf, as well as new energy models such as ID.7 and ID.5. Volkswagen announced that from the second quarter of 2024, its cars will become the first brand to come standard with ChatGPT in mass-produced models. With this technology, drivers can easily adjust the air conditioner, query navigation, or solve common problems through voice, further enhancing the intelligence and convenience of the driving experience.
In addition, brands such as Tesla and Volvo are also actively deploying AI technology, committed to deeply integrating large models, generative AI and vehicle systems, in order to occupy a more advantageous position in future market competition. With the continuous advancement of AI technology, the definition of cars is being rewritten. Driving, once the core function of cars, is now giving way to more intelligent and diverse software services. The smart cockpit is no longer just a driving assistance tool, it is evolving into a comprehensive platform that integrates multiple functions such as entertainment, information, and interaction.
In the future, with the continuous integration of AI and electric vehicle technologies, we can foresee that the smart cockpit will become a new competitive frontier in the automotive industry. The innovation and cooperation of major automakers will bring users an unprecedented intelligent driving experience and push the entire industry into a new era.
