Turning on the tap, clear water gushed out. Guo Xiuli, a villager from Jianchang Village, Qingshui Town, Mentougou District, was very happy. "Now there is enough water at any time. I don't have to worry about water shortages during peak hours!"

With the formulation and issuance of the "Beijing Rural Water Supply High-Quality Development Plan (2023-2025)", the city's rural water supply conditions will be further optimized and improved. This year, 50 administrative villages will be included in the coverage of urban public water supply, benefiting about 160,000 people.
Villagers in remote mountainous areas say goodbye to "depending on the weather for water"
Jianchang Village, Qingshui Town, Mentougou District is located in the deep mountains in the west of Beijing. On the southwest side of the village committee stands a brand new small house, which was just built in May this year. In addition to a newly drilled well, the water-drawing equipment and disinfection equipment are also newly purchased.
Yu Yonghong, director of the Agricultural Comprehensive Service Center of Qingshui Town, Mentougou, told reporters that Jianchang Village has a permanent population of about 100 people. Their ancestors have been drinking spring water from the mountains. The spring water is first led to the village's reservoir and then supplied to each household. However, this "depending on the weather for water" method makes the water supply unstable. During the dry season, the village will face water shortage. Last summer, affected by the "23.7" heavy rainstorm, the water quality of the spring water in Jianchang Village was once problematic. At that time, the village committee could only draw water from the town for villagers to use. "After investigation by the city and district water affairs departments, we dug a deep well in the shortest time since late August last year, and then built a standardized well house to solve the problem of safe water use for the people." Yu Yonghong said that in the future, Jianchang Village will focus on the development of folk tourism, and solving the water problem will also help to strengthen the collective economy.
The newly built well house in Jianchang Village is equipped with brand new drinking water disinfection equipment."In the past, when we only had mountain spring water, there was no water supply in the dry season. In the summer, water demand was also high. When everyone was using water, the water in the tap was low, and we had to wait until people in lower places used it up before people in higher places could use it." Guo Xiuli said that since digging a well, she no longer has to worry about water. "Now, there is enough water at any time when we turn on the tap, and it is the same for people in higher and lower places!"
"Mountain spring water" and "groundwater" complement each other
There are 11 villages in the deep mountain areas like Jianchang Village that rely on mountain spring water as the sole water source in Mentougou District. So far, all of them have achieved "dual water source" water supply.
Guo Luozhao, a villager in Jianchang Village, washes fruits and vegetables with tap water in his yard."As an important infrastructure, rural water supply is the key to boosting rural revitalization and improving people's well-being." Jiao Shaokun, a staff member of the Mentougou District Water Supply Affairs Center, said that Mentougou District focuses on the pain points, difficulties and bottlenecks of rural drinking water. Through water source guarantee projects, standardized transformation of water supply stations, pipe network interconnection, installation and replacement of disinfection equipment, etc., it provides dual water source guarantees for 12 villages such as Huangan and Shuangjianzi that have only mountain spring water sources in the district, implements "double insurance", and realizes the mutual backup and complementarity of "mountain spring water + groundwater" and the dual use of peace and emergency. "This can not only make full use of spring water resources to supplement rural water supply sources and further reduce the exploitation of groundwater resources, but also solve the current situation of unstable mountain spring water supply caused by fluctuations in natural factors such as seasons through stable groundwater source guarantees." Jiao Shaokun said.
In the next step, the Mentougou District Water Affairs Bureau will further improve and enhance the zoning complementary capabilities of water sources, pipelines, etc. by promoting the integration of urban and rural water supply and the intensification of rural water supply, promote the rapid switching of peacetime and emergency use, and continuously strengthen the resilience of the water supply system.
By the end of next year, all villages within the Fifth Ring Road of the central urban area will be connected to public water supply
The reporter noted that in June this year, Beijing formulated and issued the "Beijing Rural Water Supply High-Quality Development Plan (2023-2025)", which clarified the goals, tasks and related policies for the high-quality development of rural water supply. In the future, the water supply conditions in rural areas of the city will be further optimized and improved.
According to the development plan, the city will strive to initially form a pattern of high-quality development of rural water supply with a complete system layout, intensive and safe facilities, standardized and professional management and maintenance, and high-quality and efficient services by the end of 2025. The level of urban and rural water supply integration has been significantly improved, and all villages within the Fifth Ring Road of the central urban area and the sub-center of the city (155 square kilometers) have been connected to the urban public water supply. The proportion of rural population covered by large-scale water supply projects in the city (1,000 tons per 10,000 people) has reached 75%. The penetration rate of rural tap water has remained stable at more than 99%, and the rate of rural water supply quality compliance has been significantly improved.
Fei Xiaoxuan, a third-level chief clerk at the Water Supply Management Department of Beijing Water Authority, said that this year, the city plans to complete the renovation of 20 rural water supply facilities, and 11 have been completed so far. At the same time, 50 administrative villages will also be included in the public water supply coverage, benefiting about 160,000 people.
