Recently, the 2024 summer "Three-Down-to-the-Countryside" social practice activities of the School of Mathematics of Yunnan Normal University came to an end.
A total of 84 volunteers from the "Heart" Equation Volunteer Service Team, the "Decimal Seedling" Volunteer Service Team and the Fuyao Ningfanghua Volunteer Service Team from the School of Mathematics of Yunnan Normal University went to Huaxing Primary School in Goujie Town, Yiling County, Kunming City, Lingang Primary School in Tuobuka Town, Dongchuan District, Siyuan Community Youth Home in Zhongping Street, Huize County, Qujing City, and Qianjin Primary School in Caoba Town, Mengzi City, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture to carry out summer social practice, bringing knowledge and care to the children.
Before the practical activities, each volunteer service group prepared in advance, focusing on education and teaching, student growth, quality development and other aspects. They carefully designed the curriculum system and opened special courses to consolidate students' basic knowledge while cultivating their interests and comprehensive qualities. They focused on communication and cooperation, learned experience and methods, and promoted the sharing and complementarity of educational resources. The purpose is to enable students to develop well in knowledge, skills, morality and other aspects through this teaching activity.
Volunteers organized various handicrafts to stimulate students' interest in learning and creative enthusiasm. "Children's Name Brands", "Building Blocks Rhapsody", handmade paper plates, lacquer fans, handmade clothes, etc. made students enjoy it. The DIY kites made outdoors made students love them, the art work "Frame the Nature in My Heart" made students feel the charm of nature, handmade clay made students boldly use their imagination, and the making of intangible cultural heritage paper-cut art window grilles and Chinese knots made students feel the beauty of traditional culture.
In the folk culture class, volunteers led students to understand China's ethnic minorities starting from the costumes of ethnic minorities, popularized ethnic culture and local customs in Yunnan, educated students to learn to tolerate and respect differences in folk culture, and establish a sense of responsibility to promote national unity. In the traditional culture class, volunteers introduced traditional culture from the perspectives of poetry appreciation, global cultural diversity, Chinese traditional festivals, and intangible cultural heritage knowledge, and held special activities such as cutting window paper-cuts, weaving Chinese knots, tie-dyeing, making sachets, and ancient Chinese traditional games to inspire students to identify with and love traditional culture, and to inherit and promote Chinese traditional culture.
In the law science class, volunteers led students to understand the "Minor Protection Law" and demonstrated to children the legal protection of minors' rights and interests from the aspects of basic rights of minors, school bullying, sexual assault, etc., combined with specific cases, and taught students to use legal weapons to protect themselves. At the same time, role-playing deepened their understanding and memory of legal knowledge. In terms of safety education, volunteers introduced the types, characteristics and hazards of drugs to students in detail through vivid multimedia presentations, real event analysis, interesting interactions, and hand-copied newspaper production. At the same time, volunteers also popularized earthquake knowledge and wild mushroom knowledge to students, organized students to conduct earthquake drills and wild mushroom knowledge quizzes, improved students' safety awareness and first aid capabilities, and protected a safe summer vacation.
While expanding students' knowledge, they also strengthen physical exercise. Volunteers lead students to run exercises every morning, play table tennis and basketball with students in physical education classes, and the students' laughter echoes throughout the campus. Volunteers also carefully designed and held a fun sports meeting, and students signed up enthusiastically. Whether in individual events such as digital game competitions and individual skipping ropes, or in group events such as skipping ropes and table tennis relays, students' performances showed extremely high enthusiasm, concentration, and teamwork ability.
In terms of mental health, volunteers led students to explore their inner world, understand their own emotional changes, and master ways to deal with stress and frustration. In addition, volunteers organized students to perform the situational drama "Reject Internet Addiction". Through reasonable plots and vivid role-playing, children learned how to use the Internet correctly and how to protect themselves in the online world; interesting activities such as taking trains and newspaper tanks allowed students to grow spiritually in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.
The event lasted 14 days, covering 456 people, 3,405 people served, and 6,394 hours of volunteer service. The volunteers not only adhered to their beliefs and ideals in a difficult environment, but also enhanced their understanding and respect in their interactions with different groups of people. More importantly, they deeply realized the power of education and the value of life, and also realized that rural development is closely related to the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage. The volunteer group will continue to explore and improve its professional capabilities, strive to serve more people in the future, tell the stories of Yunnan's intangible cultural heritage to young people, and take responsibility in the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.
