Red Net Time News August 12th(Reporter Long Zhen) In recent years, China's new energy vehicles have experienced rapid development. In July, the monthly penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China exceeded 50%, and the monthly sales volume exceeded that of fuel vehicles for the first time. This milestone breakthrough indicates that new energy vehicles have become an important force in China's auto market.
According to the latest data released by the China Passenger Car Association, the national passenger car market sold 1.72 million vehicles in July, of which the new energy vehicle market sold 878,000 vehicles (fuel passenger cars sold 840,000 vehicles in July), a year-on-year increase of 36.9% and a month-on-month increase of 2.8%. The penetration rate reached 51.1%, an increase of 15% from 36.1% in the same period last year.
The strong growth momentum of the domestic new energy vehicle market has also enabled major new energy vehicle manufacturers to perform well.
Judging from the retail sales ranking of new energy manufacturers in July 2024, except for GAC Aion, the other top ten manufacturers all showed a year-on-year increase, among which SERES Automobile and Chery Automobile had particularly obvious increases, reaching 826.7% and 292.1% respectively, while GAC Aion fell by 27.1% year-on-year.
The new energy vehicle market presents a situation of "one superpower and many strong players"
In the sales ranking, the domestic new energy vehicle market presents a situation of "one super and many strong". Among them, BYD tops the sales ranking with an absolute leading advantage, with new energy sales reaching 311,800 units in July, a year-on-year increase of 35%, and a market share of 35.5%.
Driven by market demand, BYD is also continuously strengthening the competitiveness of its plug-in hybrid products. On July 25, BYD dropped two "blockbuster" products on the market: Song L DM-i and the new Song PLUS DM-i, with a market price of 135,800 to 175,800 yuan. The launch of the "double Song" further strengthened the Song family's position as the top SUV seller.
At the same time, BYD's high-end development path is also continuing to advance. In July, the sales of Denza, Fangchengbao and Yangwang brands were 10,340, 1,842 and 439 respectively. On July 29, the entire Fangchengbao 5 series was reduced in price by 50,000 yuan, and sales are expected to increase.
BYD brand models
Following BYD, traditional car companies with independent brands such as Geely Auto, Changan Automobile and Chery Automobile have continued to make efforts in the field of new energy and began to rise strongly.
For example, Geely Auto's sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 57,200 in July, a year-on-year increase of 62.8%. In the current fierce market competition, new energy has become the main driving force for Geely Auto to maintain growth. Gan Jiayue, CEO of Geely Auto Group, said, "The second half of the year is Geely's 'big year for products'. Geely, Lynk & Co, Zeekr and other brands have launched new products. The company is confident of achieving the annual sales target of 2 million."
Chery Automobile, which was previously a bit behind in the new energy sector, is also accelerating its new product launches. With its rich hybrid + pure electric product matrix, it is now catching up. Data shows that Chery Automobile's sales of new energy vehicles in July were 33,500 units, a year-on-year increase of 292.1%, ranking eighth on the list.
New car manufacturers such as Ideal and Leapmotor hit record sales in July
In the ranking list, a number of new car-making forces such as Ideal Auto, SERES and Leapmotor also performed well, among which Ideal Auto and Leapmotor achieved new sales records in July.
In July, Ideal Auto delivered 51,000 new vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 49.4%, setting a new monthly delivery record. It was also the second time that monthly sales exceeded 50,000 vehicles after 50,353 vehicles in December 2023. As of July 31, 2024, Ideal Auto has delivered a total of 873,345 vehicles, ranking first in total delivery volume among China's emerging power brands.
"Li Auto L6 continues to perform strongly, with monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 units, becoming a hit product in the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan price range," said Li Xiang, chairman and CEO of Li Auto. In addition, since the release of Li Auto NOA, users' attention and recognition of intelligent driving technology have increased significantly, and the number of orders for AD Max models equipped with NOA function increased significantly in July.
Leapmotor also hit a new high in July deliveries, delivering more than 22,000 new cars in July, a year-on-year increase of 54.1%, ranking tenth on the list. Among them, Leapmotor C16 received more than 10,000 orders in the first month after its launch, and deliveries began across the country, boosting Leapmotor's sales. In addition, on July 30, Leapmotor International shipped the first batch of Leapmotor C10 and T03 electric vehicles from Shanghai Port to Europe, which is an important milestone in the cooperation between Stellantis Group and Leapmotor.
Although the overall trend of the passenger car market has declined due to factors such as the traditional off-season and price wars, new energy vehicles have grown against the trend, and many new energy manufacturers have performed well in July. As the "old for new" policy continues to advance, it will bring a window period for new energy vehicles, and the penetration rate of new energy is expected to continue to increase.
