Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was reportedly asked about the publisher's stance on game mods and user-generated content during an earnings call.
“We always keep an open mind and are certainly very excited about what users can expect from engaging with our games and other games,” Zelnick said. “Obviously, we’re excited about what we’re seeing in mods for games like Grand Theft Auto. Ultimately, entertainment companies need to deliver great entertainment experiences to consumers, and that’s the starting point.”
However, the Take-Two CEO doesn't believe that user-generated content will dominate the gaming industry. "I don't believe that this industry will become one driven by user-generated content. However, for some games, like Roblox, they are more like platforms than digital entertainment products. I think our company prides itself on making the best entertainment in the world, in all its forms. If consumers want to add to and enhance that for their own consumption, generally speaking, we're willing to support that as long as we protect our intellectual property."
Elsewhere on the earnings call, Zelnick confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track to launch in 2025, seemingly dispelling recent reports from earlier this year that development was "behind." When asked about the current stage of development for GTA 6, Zelnick simply refused to answer the question.
