BioWare hopes that Dragon Age: Shadowkeep will make up for the shortcomings of previous games in the series in terms of character creation, especially for characters with non-white skin tones.
Game director Corianne Busche admitted in an interview that some aspects of character creation are far from the series' best. "To be honest, Dragon Age has traditionally not done skin color well, especially for people of color," she admitted.
As a result, she said, BioWare "wanted to make amends here." We haven't seen the full functionality of Shadowkeep's character creation yet, but it looks like you'll be able to tweak your character in far more detail than in previous games.
This is part of what Busche calls BioWare's "first principle of creation" across the entire game, not just character creation: "Be whoever you want to be." Busche explained, "We really think that [features like character creation] unlock that possibility for our players. We want everyone to see themselves in the game."
