According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Chinese automakers exported 2.793 million vehicles overseas in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 31%. Data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association on July 31 showed that Japan's automobile exports in the first half of 2024 were slightly lower than the same period last year, at 2.01 million vehicles. This means that after surpassing Japan to become the world's largest automobile exporter in 2023, China's automobile industry has surpassed Japan again in the first half of 2024.In 2023, China surpassed Japan for the first time to become the world's largest automobile exporter with an automobile export volume of 4.91 million vehicles, while the latter exported 4.42 million vehicles during the same period.

According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Japan's automobile exports to North America and other markets increased against the backdrop of a depreciating yen, with passenger car exports increasing by 2% to 1,830,675 units, while truck exports decreased by 17% to 141,371 units. Overall exports fell by 0.3% to 2,017,660 units, with negative year-on-year growth in automobile exports in the first half of the year.

Specifically, in the first half of this year, my country's traditional fuel vehicle exports grew by 36.2%, with exports in the first six months reaching 2.188 million units. New energy vehicles grew by 13.2% year-on-year, a significant slowdown compared with the same period last year. In June this year, new energy vehicle exports achieved year-on-year growth, but fell by 13.2% month-on-month to 86,000 units.

In terms of export destinations, the top five regions in my country's total vehicle exports in the first half of this year were Russia (478,500 vehicles), Mexico (226,400 vehicles), Brazil (171,100 vehicles), the UAE (142,000 vehicles), and Belgium (138,900 vehicles). The top five markets for new energy vehicle exports were Brazil, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Thailand, and the Philippines.

IT Home noticed that statistics from Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, showed that China's automobile exports reached US$55.2 billion from January to June 2024, with an export growth rate of 18.9%. The average export price of automobiles was US$19,000, which is still basically the same as the same period last year. There is still much room for improvement in product and brand value.
