in response to products with concentrated consumer complaints and reports and more quality problems, the shanghai municipal market supervision bureau recently organized its forces to conduct supervisory random inspections on 80 batches of precious metal jewelry from 42 brands sold by 47 companies in nine areas including pudong new area, qingpu, putuo, songjiang, huangpu, jinshan, jing'an, xuhui and fengxian, and two online platforms, tmall and douyin.

after testing, 7 batches were found to be unqualified, with an unqualified detection rate of 8.8%. the test items involved three items: precious metal purity (content), quality, and identification (labels, imprints). the unqualified item this time was identification (labels, imprints).

7 batches of identification (labels, imprints) were unqualified, of which 4 batches of labels contained words that did not meet the standard requirements, and 6 batches of imprints lacked manufacturer codes.

for example, the "south african zhenzuan" brand 3d hard gold pendants sold by zhenzuan jewelry store in jinshan district, shanghai, which are nominally produced (or supplied) by shanghai zhenzuan jewelry co., ltd., contain the words "3d hard gold" in the name of the precious metal jewelry. in addition, the batch is not marked with the manufacturer code, which is inconsistent with the national mandatory standards; the "canxi jewelry" brand 3d hard gold earrings (model specifications: about 1.26g gold content 999‰) sold by shanghai canxi jewelry co., ltd. in tmall baiting flagship store are nominally produced (or supplied) by it, but are not marked with the manufacturer code, which is inconsistent with the requirements of the national mandatory standards. the standard requires that the label naming content can only include purity, material, gem name and jewelry variety. there shall be no other content before and after the name; the imprint content shall include: manufacturer code, material, purity and the quality of the main diamond (0.1 carat or more) of the inlaid jewelry. if the label is unqualified, consumers cannot accurately understand the true situation of the product, which affects consumers' correct purchase.

according to the spot check results, the market supervision department has ordered the relevant operators to immediately stop selling unqualified products, conduct a comprehensive cleanup of inventory products and products on sale, and take proactive measures in accordance with relevant laws and regulations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. operators who produce and sell unqualified products will be transferred to the local market supervision department for investigation and handling in accordance with the law.

at the same time, shanghai market supervision departments remind consumers to pay attention to the following points when purchasing precious metal jewelry:

1. ask for sales receipts and certificates from merchants, and ask them to indicate the specific name of the product on the invoice. if you buy local gold, silver, and jewelry during your trip, you must ask for sales invoices from merchants in a timely manner, so that you can protect your legal rights in case of quality disputes.

2. if a test certificate is provided, you can check the cma logo or the official website of the testing agency, make phone calls, etc. to check the authenticity of the product certificate and confirm whether the information matches the actual product.

3. it is recommended to choose products that clearly mark the purity of precious metals. when purchasing precious metals, you should check whether the mark is correct and complete. the mark should at least include the manufacturer's code, material and purity.
