pu xuedong, director of the municipal bureau of commerce, introduced that hong kong has always been the largest source of foreign investment in beijing and the region where beijing enterprises have invested the most overseas. in the first half of this year, hong kong's actual investment in beijing reached us$3.03 billion, accounting for 80.8% of the city's total. beijing's direct investment in hong kong reached us$2.27 billion, accounting for 55.4% of the city's total.
in july 2021, beijing was approved to cultivate and build an international consumer center city. over the past three years, beijing has focused on "internationalization", worked hard to build a gathering place that integrates global consumer resources, closely linked to "consumption", and made every effort to create a new highland for consumption upgrades, highlighting the "center", and continuously strengthening the influence of aggregation, radiation, and leadership. at present, related work has achieved a series of results.
the 2023 beijing cultivation and construction of an international consumption center city index released by the municipal bureau of statistics shows that the total index has achieved a historic leap, breaking through 100 for the first time to reach 105.4, an increase of 15.9 from 2020. looking at the performance of each dimension in detail, the international reputation index is 92.2, which needs to be further improved to cross the 100-point threshold, the business activity index is 117.2, the consumer comfort index is 115.4, the arrival convenience index is 108.2, and the consumer prosperity index is 103. the indexes of the four dimensions are all over 100, which have returned to the pre-epidemic level.
"we hope that beijing and hong kong can strengthen cooperation to jointly explore new consumption models, open up new scenarios, and promote new business formats." zhong yongxi, general representative of the hong kong trade development council in mainland china, said that as a high-end international consumption center city, hong kong has a high level of internationalization and strong global influence. he hopes to leverage hong kong's experience to help beijing upgrade its brand, use the hong kong channel to help beijing's brands go overseas, and help build new consumption landmarks through cultural empowerment, and jointly contribute to the new development of international consumption center cities.
cultivating and building an international consumer center city requires the joint efforts of the government and enterprises. during the event, real estate, catering, commercial design companies, etc. shared their experiences in promoting the integrated development of diversified consumer formats and optimizing the construction of business districts. han zhi, director of retail business of hong kong swire properties, shared the construction and renovation process of landmark projects such as taikoo li sanlitun and indigo in beijing. these projects continue to strengthen regional connectivity and convenience and enhance the unique experience brought by landscape creation. gao yixuan, president of beijing capital development co., ltd., introduced that the tan valley business district in western beijing has become a micro-vacation destination in the city. it will introduce more high-quality first stores and become a benchmark area for service consumption with brand aggregation and model innovation. ou zhenjiang, chairman of hong kong yihui commercial design, believes that in the context of urban renewal, business is constantly changing. only by achieving the ultimate integration of "people, goods and places" can valuable business be created.
at the event, relevant institutions and enterprises in beijing and hong kong conducted docking and negotiations, and had in-depth exchanges on topics such as industrial policies, stimulating consumption, and business district construction, further promoting the two-way flow of projects between the two places and promoting economic and trade cooperation.
