dongcheng red memory intangible cultural heritage exhibition opens, 135 works show exquisite craftsmanship

on september 11, the "echoes of the times - dongcheng district red memory intangible cultural heritage exhibition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the people's republic of china" opened in the south square of longfu temple. the exhibition is divided into four major sections, with a total of 75 groups and 135 intangible cultural heritage works beautifully presented, showing the heritage and charm of dongcheng district's intangible cultural heritage skills.
the first section of the exhibition, "new songs of the times", exhibited 64 national day tribute works from beijing enamel factory, long shuncheng and representative inheritors at all levels. the flower basket "blessing the motherland" uses the "beijing silk flower" technique, a national intangible cultural heritage project, and uses sunflowers, azaleas, and red plums, which symbolize hard work, as well as peonies and carnations, which bless the prosperity of the motherland, to show the spirit of close unity, high spirits, and perseverance of the people of all ethnic groups in the country.
the second section, "new brilliance of treasures", focused on displaying 21 dongcheng intangible cultural heritage works from the state gifts made by beijing arts and crafts group and national inheritors. many state gifts carefully crafted by beijing arts and crafts group were on display, such as the cloisonné works "silk road divine horse", "peace in the four seas", "auspicious elephant and peace", etc.
the third section, "new voices of celebrations", exhibited 24 pieces of dongcheng intangible cultural heritage that appeared in major international events and conferences. among them, the cloisonné work "harmony and coexistence" pair of vases was a gift to the 2018 beijing summit of the forum on china-africa cooperation. the vases depict the temple of heaven, a landmark building in beijing, and the theme paintings of the maritime silk road, implying mutual understanding and respect, working together, and mutual benefit and win-win results.
the fourth section, "youthful new rhythm", showcases the creativity of the new forces of dongcheng's intangible cultural heritage. the works of young inheritor ma ning, who combined traditional lacquer carving techniques with modern figurines, show the ingenious balance between tradition and innovation of intangible cultural heritage inheritors. young inheritor yang xiaoya's jewelry series combines traditional gold-inlaid jade techniques with modern design concepts, which not only retains the essence of traditional craftsmanship, but also adds new fashion elements.
