the china-maldives friendship bridge is 2,000 meters long and is the first modern cross-sea bridge in the maldives. the main bridge is 760 meters long and is a six-span composite hybrid beam v-shaped rigid frame bridge. the road grade is a city trunk road. the bridge is designed to have a service life of 100 years. the project started in march 2016. the bridge connects male island and airport island, and connects hulhumale island in series, allowing bridges to connect the islands that can only be accessed by ferry.
in march this year, the second civil engineering bureau began to implement the subsequent maintenance technical assistance project for the bridge, which lasted for 36 months, to carry out initial repair and preventive maintenance of the bridge, improve the bridge maintenance files, carry out bridge inspection and evaluation, and perform daily maintenance of the bridge. the arch painting is one of the important tasks of bridge maintenance.
the design of the bridge fully considers the cultural integration of china and maldives, and the landscape project at the bridgehead incorporates architectural elements with strong islamic style, such as domes and arches. "the high temperature, high humidity and high salt environment in the maldives is highly corrosive to the bridge. for this reason, we carry out management and maintenance of the bridge and apply new anti-corrosion coating to the arches and other auxiliary structures, which not only ensures the safety of the structure but also improves the image of the bridge." zhang shuaijun, leader of the second civil engineering bureau's bridge follow-up maintenance technical assistance project team, said.
the second civil aviation administration also trained malaysian maintenance technicians and exported bridge management and maintenance technology to the local area. the two sides will subsequently establish a bridge management system that serves bridge inspection, assessment and maintenance, and complete regular inspections, special inspections, and regular monitoring test results reports within the three-year assistance cycle.
