With the opening of the first phase of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway Heritage Park, going to the "Beijing-Zhangjiakou" to take children out for a walk and check in, as well as to do some leisure activities, has become a new daily routine for residents in the surrounding area. So how will its surrounding environment be improved and transformed? Yesterday, a Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned from the Development and Reform Commission of Haidian District that the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the areas along the line improvement project had started construction in July. The project coordinated seven plots of land around the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway Heritage Park, "bordering" the park with 58,000 square meters, and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
It is reported that Haidian District has deepened the "decongestion, rectification and promotion" special action, coordinated the use of vacated space and underground space resources, added public service facilities, and systematically planned the overall development of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the areas along the line. This renovation and upgrading will fully protect the historical relics of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, deeply explore the history of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, and systematically optimize the overall traffic organization and functional layout of the region. It will add cultural life, fitness activities and other places to create an ecological, cultural and leisure functional area that integrates patriotism education, historical relics display and citizen leisure and entertainment.
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor will have a new landscape
The Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned that this renovation and upgrading project is located around the first phase of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway Relics Park, from Zhichun Road in the south to Qinghua East Road in the north, from Wangzhuang Road, Zhanchunyuan West Road and Dayuncun Road in the east to Heqing Road and Zhongguancun South Fifth Street in the west. The project involves 7 plots of land, divided into three parts: A, B and C, with a total area of about 58,000 square meters.
According to relevant staff of the Development and Reform Commission of Haidian District, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the area along the corridor, part A, is located between Tsinghua East Road and Chengfu Road, surrounded by universities, research institutes, and innovative industrial centers. The construction theme is the nodes of the Science and Technology Innovation Market and the Wind and Rain Running Path, and the community connection nodes. Specifically, at the nodes of the Science and Technology Innovation Market and the Wind and Rain Running Path, the old road will be transformed into a runway based on smart technology, with ornamental flowers planted on both sides of the runway, so that citizens can feel happier while exercising; new road pavement will be laid on the community connection nodes, and seats, runways, and ornamental green plants will be added to create a more open and convenient activity space for citizens, further enhancing the landscape effect.
"The Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the areas along the corridor are located in areas with the highest concentration of universities and research institutes in Beijing and even the whole country. There are 18 famous universities and research institutes in the surrounding areas, including Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The density of scientific and technological innovation enterprises exceeds 800 per square kilometer. This upgrade will provide a new open space for interaction between universities and supplement different types of public service content. At the same time, the project transformation and upgrading process will also follow the principle of ecological priority, uphold the concept of sponge city, use water storage modules to collect and recycle rainwater, build a sustainable rainwater collection and discharge system, and promote the gain of ecological benefits of urban green spaces." Relevant staff of the Haidian District Development and Reform Commission said.
Add new space for citizens’ leisure and entertainment
Part B of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the areas along the corridor refers to the area from Chengfu Road to the North Fourth Ring Road. It will be built into an international youth interaction platform with Beijing-Zhangjiakou cultural characteristics, mainly consisting of an urban cultural exchange space, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou outdoor geological garden, and a railway cultural children's playground.
"This renovation and upgrading will design a circular park activity venue with the theme of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway to meet the entertainment, leisure and rest needs of the surrounding people; new car and slow-moving systems will be added, and motor vehicle and bicycle parking lots and jogging trails will be set up to fully meet the travel needs of different groups of people in the surrounding area; the children's playground will be centered around track elements, with trees and lawns as the main features. Not only will it increase amusement facilities and equipment to meet children's play needs, it will also increase forest coverage, while creating a more comfortable sight and space for activities under the forest. At the same time, a Spring Scenery Mountain Peach Avenue will be designed, with a park avenue on both sides planted with mainly peach blossoms and other ornamental flowers planted under the forest." said a relevant staff member of the Haidian District Development and Reform Commission.
After the renovation, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and Part B of the area along the corridor will become a good place for citizens to chat, stop and exercise, and a leisure and social space integrating entertainment, leisure, and rest.
Improve inter-school culture and crossing memory nodes
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the C section of the area along the corridor extend from the North Fourth Ring Road in the north to Zhichun Road in the south, and are also surrounded by universities, research institutes, and innovative industrial centers. According to the characteristics of the surrounding area of the plot, an inter-school cultural and crossing memory node will be built, including functions such as an intelligent treadmill under the bridge, campus cultural exhibitions, inter-school science and technology innovation markets, and community activity gardens. The project has designed a special vehicle and slow-moving system, which rationally divides motor vehicle parking lots and bicycle spaces, motor vehicle lanes and non-motor vehicle lanes, making the activity space at the subway station entrance more tidy and orderly, and pedestrian travel more convenient, ensuring the daily parking needs of citizens, and rationally planning the traffic layout.
It is understood that in response to the current situation where the gravel road is uneven, travel is inconvenient, and the garden landscape is poor, this renovation will build new pedestrian paths and plant trees and shrubs to create a pleasant landscape effect and provide citizens with a more standardized activity space.
"Systematic planning of the overall development of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Corridor and the areas along the corridor is of great significance for further establishing the horizontal connection between the east and west sides of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway and strengthening the integration of surrounding land use and residential, cultural and educational, scientific and technological industries. It is an important practice to explore the use of railway heritage space to promote urban renewal." A relevant staff member of the Haidian District Development and Reform Commission said, "In the future, Haidian District will continue to use the vacated land and revitalize the space under the bridge to continuously improve the quality of the city and the living environment, and improve the level of refined urban governance with 'embroidery' skills."
