Shenzhen News Network, August 26, 2024 (Reporter Jiao Ziyu, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily) Shenzhen is one of the most popular cities for young people at present, and the capacity of university "welcoming new students" is constantly expanding every year. Last week, three schools, Southern University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) and Shenzhen University of Science and Technology of China and Moscow State University, welcomed the 2024 freshmen. On the 26th, 1,566 mainland undergraduate freshmen from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) also arrived at their "dream school". From the "Undergraduate Freshman Atlas" released by various schools, reporters found that this year's distribution of freshmen's source cities and source middle schools is more extensive than in previous years, and the "source circle" of colleges and universities has become more and more abundant.

This year, Shenzhen University of North China and North China University of Science and Technology has innovated its undergraduate admission model. In addition to the comprehensive evaluation and college entrance examination admission model, it has also launched the admission of arts and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students for the first time. On this basis, the school's 2024 freshmen will come from 175 cities and 549 secondary schools. The 2024 freshmen of CUHK (Shenzhen) came from 579 schools across the country, and the farthest source city is 3,530 kilometers away from Shenzhen. From the rippling blue waves of Lingnan to the cultural heritage of the land of Qilu, from the red splendid Xiaoxiang to the vast fields of the Central Plains and the spicy customs of Bashu, the intersection of multiple cultures gives freshmen endless topics to talk about.

In order to provide good campus life services for freshmen from all over the world, Shenzhen University of North China and Molecular Biology adopted a questionnaire survey for the first time this year to collect relevant information from freshmen before the start of school for reference when arranging accommodation. It is understood that the questionnaire specially set up options such as height, personality and hobbies, and work and rest habits. "The questionnaire questions include what you want to say to the counselor, how to describe your personality, work and rest time, preference for the second dimension or games, etc. When the dormitory was assigned, students were asked about the results of the 'MBTI' (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) test, which is quite interesting." Xia Feiyue, a freshman majoring in biology and Russian, told reporters, "I think this method is very good. Taking myself as an example, I am currently very like-minded with my roommates. One of my roommates even read the same niche novel with me, which is a surprise. Shenzhen University of North China and Molecular Biology has good food and accommodation, and there are many books in the library. My high school classmates are particularly envious of me."

In terms of the ratio of male to female freshmen, Shenzhen University has 52.9% male students and 47.1% female students. Among them, the top three majors with a high proportion of male students are the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, and the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering. The top three majors with a high proportion of female students are the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Communication, and the School of Humanities. The ratio of male to female freshmen at CUHK-Shenzhen is 1.12:1, with 827 males and 739 females; the ratio at Shenzhen University of Northwestern Polytechnical University is 1.4:1, with the most balanced ratio in the Department of Biology; the ratio at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) is 2.48:1. In response to this, many seniors left messages online: "The ratio of males to females does not affect finding a partner."

What kind of experience will freshmen have when they are in the university campus that they have imagined countless times in their minds? He Jinxun, from Jieyang No. 1 Middle School, became the first person admitted to the Shenzhen Campus of Harbin Institute of Technology in Guangdong Province in the general category (physics group) with a score of 675 in the college entrance examination. Before coming to the school, she was full of longing for this place. A few days before reporting, she met many well-known "big factories" on the streets of Shenzhen, and saw a lot of "high-end" experimental equipment on the campus. She said that her first impression of the university was innovation. The freshmen Chen Haotian, Yan Yuxuan and Xu Yifan of the Basic Department had a very full schedule before reporting. They visited the school's comprehensive exhibition hall, the green campus, and went to Lianhua Mountain to check in.

Compared with undergraduate freshmen, graduate students seem to be "calm and composed". They have clear goals for their new "research" path: to continuously improve their scientific research level. After completing the registration procedures, Yang Bang, a 2024 doctoral student at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), went to the laboratory as the first thing he did. Speaking of his goals during his doctoral studies, he blurted out six words: to do useful research.
