Austria will hold a new national parliament election in September this year. The latest polls show that the far-right Austrian Freedom Party has a support rate of about 27%, ahead of the ruling Austrian People's Party.
Previously, in the European Parliament elections held in June this year, the Liberal Party also led the People's Party by one percentage point.

Cui Hongjian, professor at the Institute of Regional and Global Governance at Beijing Foreign Studies University, analyzed in an interview with a reporter from China Media Group Global Information Radio that the leading support rate for the far-right party in Austria is another manifestation of the "overall rightward turn" in the European political landscape.
Judging from the current trend, it is highly likely that the Freedom Party will maintain its lead in the Austrian parliamentary elections.
However, Austria's political situation has been relatively turbulent in recent years. Even if the Liberal Party wins the parliamentary election, its support rate is still far from enough to form a government alone, so there may be some new problems in the formation of the government after the election.
The Austrian Freedom Party recently stated in its election manifesto that the party adheres to an active policy of peace and neutrality and advocates that Austria stop paying money to the "European Peace Fund" established by the European Union in 2021.
The party believes that the current Austrian government's policies in the Ukrainian crisis are more harmful to itself than to Russia. The protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine has brought additional burdens to Austria and pushed up energy prices.

Cui Hongjian further analyzed and pointed out that the relevant propositions of the Austrian Freedom Party show that "differences of opinion" within the EU on the Ukrainian crisis are increasing.
Although the EU has been trying to form a so-called unified position on the Ukrainian crisis since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, some countries and political parties represented by the Freedom Party of Hungary, Slovakia and Austria hope for a relatively balanced solution, especially to avoid bringing more real and urgent security threats to Europe as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to escalate.
The governments of Hungary and Slovakia have expressed the hope that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will change in the direction of ceasefire and peace talks. Now the Austrian Freedom Party has also expressed a similar view, which also represents the views of some people in Austria.
