The construction of three standard-gauge railways between China and Vietnam has been put on the agenda.

According to Xinhua News Agency, China and Vietnam issued a "Joint Statement on Further Strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and Promoting the Building of a Community of Shared Future between China and Vietnam" (hereinafter referred to as the "Statement") on August 20, which stated that the two countries will accelerate the "hard connection" of their railway, highway and port infrastructure.

The statement put three Vietnamese standard-gauge railways on the agenda. These three railways all run from the Vietnamese side of the Sino-Vietnamese border to large cities in the heart of Vietnam. Although the railway connection between China and Vietnam has a history of more than a hundred years, the railway gauges of the two countries are different, and trains traveling between the two countries need to change tracks. Now that Vietnam has put the standard-gauge railway on the agenda, it will greatly improve the efficiency of the connection between the two countries in the future.

Zhou Shixin, director of the Southeast Asia Research Center of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, told the First Financial reporter that Vietnam's active cooperation in building high-speed railways between China and Vietnam is closely related to its recognition of China's high-speed railway technology.

Previously, the light rail project in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, was built by China. It has been widely praised since its opening and has accumulated a good reputation for China's rail transit construction.

In addition to railway connections, the current road and air connections between China and Vietnam are also becoming more intensified and deepened. The interconnection between China and Vietnam has gone from being open to being smooth, which will further promote the development of investment and trade between the two countries, and the cooperation in the industrial chain and supply chain will become increasingly close.
