According to CCTV Finance, multiple media reported on August 19 that General Motors will lay off more than 1,000 salaried employees worldwide after a streamlining assessment of its "software and services department."

Specifically, the layoffs include about 600 jobs at GM's technical park near Detroit. Affected employees were notified on Monday morning.

As of the end of last year, layoffs accounted for about 1.3% of the company's 76,000 salaried employees worldwide, including about 53,000 salaried employees in the U.S. Analysts pointed out that the main reason for GM's layoffs this time is to cut costs and cope with the challenges of the development of the automotive industry, while focusing on investing in new areas.

In response, a GM spokesperson said in an emailed statement, "To build GM's future, we are simplifying processes, pursuing speed and excellence, and making bold decisions. We will prioritize investments that will have the greatest impact and streamline certain teams in the software and service departments."

At present, the international automobile market is experiencing a "layoff vortex".

Traditional automakers such as Ford and Volkswagen have laid off employees on a large scale. Ford has laid off about 11% of its employees in Europe, and Volkswagen's Cariad division plans to lay off 2,000 employees. Many overseas factories have used the "demographic curve" to lay off employees, including early or partial retirement.

Even new energy vehicle companies were not spared. Tesla laid off about 14,000 employees worldwide, accounting for 10% of its 140,000 employees worldwide, and even senior executives were affected.
