As the domestic automobile industry intensifies, the overseas expansion of domestic brands has become a trend. Southeast Asia has always been an important base for Japanese cars, and it is also the primary battlefield for Chinese brands to go overseas. Among them, the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) has become an important arena for testing the safety of major automakers. Recently, many Chinese automakers have achieved impressive results in this arena.
On August 15, ASEAN NCAP officially announced the crash test results of GAC EMZOOM. As GAC's first model to be evaluated overseas, EMZOOM received the highest five-star safety rating with a total score of 88.39 points.
ASEAN NCAP is a new member of the global NCAP family, aiming to improve vehicle safety standards in the ASEAN region, enhance consumer safety awareness, and thus build a safer automobile market. ASEAN NCAP evaluation is divided into four sections: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
Among road users in ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, motorcyclists are the largest group, accounting for 80% of the total number of road users. In traffic accident statistics, motorcycle-related deaths account for more than 50% of all traffic accident deaths. In view of this, ASEAN NCAP has added motorcycle driving protection assessment links such as vehicle double-side blind spot monitoring on the basis of the original comprehensive collision test items for automobiles.
On August 16, the 40th Anniversary of Testing and Technological Innovation Development Forum held by China Automotive Research Institute was held in Chongqing. At the forum, the ASEAN NCAP Working Group was established and awarded a plaque, marking a new milestone for China and Malaysia in road traffic safety and testing technology research, and also representing that China Automotive Research Institute's research and testing level has been internationally recognized.
In addition to GAC Yingsu, there is also Chery's Omoda C5, which also received a 5-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash test, and its safety has once again passed the test.
