Alberto SagliettiAlberto Salietti (March 15, 1892 - September 19, 1961) was an Italian painter born in Ravenna, his father and grandfather were fresco decorators. He studied at the Brera Academy in Milan until 1914 and served in World War I. After the war, he continued his artistic career and participated in the Venice Biennale from 1920 onwards, becoming one of the founders of the "Italian Twentieth Century" movement.
Saglietti's art includes compositions, figures, landscapes, portraits and still lifes. His works have been exhibited not only in public galleries in Italy, such as Rome, Florence, Milan, Turin, but also in Berlin, Zurich, Montreal, Bern, Montevideo, Cleveland, Moscow, Paris and Warsaw.
His artistic style evolved from early realism to later impressionism and was closely associated with the Novecento movement, an art movement that emerged in Italy in the 1920s and aimed to revive Italian art and culture. Salietti joined the movement in 1924 and served as secretary at the first Novecento Italian exhibition in 1926.
His paintings are mainly landscapes, figures and still lifes, showing a deep understanding of nature and scenes of everyday life through an impressionistic technique. Salietti's art works are represented in several national and private collections, including museums and galleries in Italy and abroad.
In 1942, he won the Grand Prix for Painting at the Venice Biennale, marking a high point in his artistic career. Saglietti's artistic achievements also received international recognition, and his works were exhibited in international art exhibitions such as the Barcelona International Exhibition, the Budapest Exhibition, the Carnegie Institute Exhibition in Pittsburgh, and the Paris World Exhibition, and he won several awards.
The artistic legacy of Alberto Saglietti is preserved in several museums and private collections, including the Gallery of Modern Art in Genoa, the Civic Gallery in Forlì, the Museum of Art in Ravenna, the GAM in Turin, the Gallery of the Economic Society in Chiavari, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Villa Croce in Genoa, the Church of San Gaetano in Milan and the Palace of Justice in Milan.
After his death, a memorial exhibition was held in memory of his artistic achievements at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan in 1964; at the Gian Ferrari Gallery in Milan in 1967; again at the Gian Ferrari Gallery in 1969, dedicated to his tempera paintings; at La Panchetta in Bari in 1970; and at the Cortina Gallery in Milan in 1971, showing his works.
