According to the British Daily Telegraph on the 14th, former US President Trump claimed this week that he had warned Russian President Putin not to order military action against Ukraine many years ago. However, former US National Security Advisor John Bolton said that the conversation Trump talked about was fabricated and did not actually happen as far as he knew.
On the evening of August 12, local time, Trump had a nearly two-hour conversation with American billionaire Musk, which was live-streamed on Musk's social platform X. During the conversation, Trump made a series of new claims, including a conversation he had with Putin four years ago. Trump claimed that he warned Putin not to order the Russian army to take action against Ukraine.
Referring to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump told Musk and the audience: "I said to Putin, 'Don't do that. You can't do it, Vladimir. It's going to be a bad day if you do that. You can't do it.'"
"I told him what I was going to do. He said 'No,' and I said 'Yes.' And you know what, that was the last conversation we had. He was not going to do it. I got along well with him."
However, Bolton, who served as the US national security adviser during Trump's presidency, later said that he believed the conversation came from Trump's "imagination" and that Trump was eager to "show that he is the boss." On August 14, local time, in an interview with CNN, Bolton talked about Trump's appeal.
