Overseas Network, August 14thAccording to Reuters and the Financial Times on the 13th, the British National Police Agency announced on the same day that since the riots, the British police have arrested more than 1,000 people who were involved in violence, arson and robbery. The youngest arrested was only 11 years old, and more than half of the arrested people were quickly prosecuted.

The National Police Chiefs' Council said a total of 1,024 people were arrested in the UK and 575 were quickly prosecuted. Many were quickly jailed, some with lengthy sentences. Those arrested included a 69-year-old man accused of vandalism in Liverpool and an 11-year-old boy in Belfast. Two 12-year-old boys admitted taking part in the riots, including one accused of throwing projectiles at police outside a hotel in Manchester.

On July 29, a knife attack occurred in Southport, Merseyside, northwest England, when a 17-year-old male suspect broke into a primary school dance class and killed three children and injured several others. After the incident, protests broke out in London, Liverpool, Manchester and other places, and turned into violent riots. Since last week, the number of riots has decreased after the British police stepped up efforts to identify those involved in the case.

The last time Britain saw major unrest was in 2011, when a black man was shot dead by police, sparking days of street violence.Swift and severe judicial action is considered a major factor in quelling the 2011 riots, when about 4,000 people were arrested in a few weeks.
