According to reports from Yonhap News Agency and other media, Wu Se-hun posted a video on his personal homepage on the social platform that day, saying that Seoul's competitiveness in bidding for the Olympics comes from infrastructure and other aspects. With low-carbon, sustainable and low-cost Olympics becoming a major trend, Seoul will be the best host city.

Wu Se-hun said that the infrastructure of the 1988 Seoul Olympics has been preserved intact, and the Seoul Olympic Main Stadium (10 Jamsil-dong) will be modernized and transformed into a comprehensive sports and exhibition space by 2031.

Wu Se-hun also said that after visiting the Paris Olympic venues, he was more convinced that Seoul could do better. He said that he would gather the public's hearts and positive energy from the Olympics and strive forward again towards the Seoul Olympics.

As early as October 2022, Wu Se-hun was reported by Korean media to have met with IOC President Bach three times in a week, strongly expressing Seoul's desire to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. However, the South Korean government was considering bidding for the 2035 World Expo in Busan, so it was indifferent to Seoul's desire to bid for the Olympics.

In January 2024, Wu Se-hun told Bach that Seoul was interested in bidding for the 2036 Summer Olympics. In April, the Korea Sports Association formally expressed its strong desire to bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics at the International Sports Forum.

South Korean media said that the competition for the 2036 Olympic Games was unprecedentedly fierce, and the "competition rate hit a record high". At least 10 cities from different countries participated in the competition, including Berlin, Germany, Ahmedabad, India, and even Qingdao, China. The news also attracted domestic attention at the time. However, a reporter from Shandong Dazhong Daily and Peninsula Metropolis Daily later learned from the sports authorities that Qingdao did not bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics.
