The President of Botswana announced a half-day holiday on the 9th to celebrate Tebogo's victory in winning the country's first Olympic gold medal. This is also the first time in African history that an Olympic champion has won the men's 200-meter championship.

In the men's 200m final at the Paris Olympics, 21-year-old Botswana track and field athlete Tebogo set an African record of 19.46 seconds and won the championship. This is Botswana's first Olympic gold medal in history and the country's third Olympic medal.

During the competition, Botswana athlete Tebogo beat three American opponents. Just before reaching the finish line, Tebogo patted his chest to celebrate in advance and paid tribute to Bolt.

After crossing the finish line first, Tebogo took off his boots and showed his mother's birthday printed on the boots and the initials of his mother painted on his fingers, paying tribute to his loved one who passed away in May last year.

"Tebogo's performance and achievements are so outstanding that the nation should pause and celebrate in the most distinctive, appropriate and responsible manner. This will be engraved in the annals of national history," the Botswana government said in a statement.
