I first thought that the northern countryside was dull and unpainted. In fact, this is not the case. The earthen walls and mud roofs are not only warm, but also simple in shape and harmonious in color.

In the nursery in the wilderness, the seedlings are the same color as the soil, but their texture is exquisite and picturesque, with endless hidden treasures, it is true that the universe can be seen in a grain of sand.If you look closely, you will find that the green of early spring has quietly appeared, growing greener day by day.

There are rivers and rows of houses in the south of the Yangtze River. Everyone knows whose houses they are. They have similar doors and windows and gables. Even if you take the wrong road and enter someone else's home, the owner's kindness is like that of a relative near or far. This was the hometown of my childhood. This hometown has disappeared, along with the old houses, old friends, and the hearts of the old friends.Don’t think this painting is just a memory or fake, it is actually real.

It is not the water of the Yellow River, but a small river coming from the sky. This small river in my hometown, the small river of my ancestors, flows into the heart of the wanderer and will never dry up.

Wu Guanzhong's Sauce Factory, 2000, Collection of Singapore Art Museum

A few years ago, I visited a township in Shaoxing and suddenly found a soy sauce factory that I was familiar with in my childhood. It had a tall gate and large white walls. On the white walls, there were still huge bold letters "soy sauce factory" and "dairy factory". The fonts were also authentic and traditional.I couldn't help but draw this picture of an old man from the soy sauce factory in the 1930s. In front of my eyes appeared my father climbing the ladder to mix the soy sauce jar and the pretty girl from the soy sauce factory who was my elementary school classmate.

Wu Guanzhong Window 2000, Collection of Shanghai Art Museum

The old wooden wall is brown and black, with a small window in the middle. The window is all black, like a black hole. There are small pieces of red and green at the hole. Is it the child's clothes? Is it the mother's clothes? Is it a potted flower? The owner of the dark and shabby room has the leisure to water the potted flowers? Who is the owner? He was busy looking for food on the long streets and sleeping in a dark room at night; He is an old man, poor and miserable, planting flowers to masturbate and make fun of himself?

The board-walled wooden house is suspended on the riverside, and underneath the house is an even darker hole, which in the painter's eyes forms a large black surface, which is both deep and conspicuous. The dark brown blocks and the black blocks form a sad barrier, which is embedded in the light gray stone frame, forming the flat beauty of modern painting.

The person in the window longs for the sunny world outside the window, but he doesn't care that his window is also decorated with artistic focus.

Wu Guanzhong Town 2002 Collection of Singapore Art Museum

Last year, I painted patches of sky between dense leaves. Today, I painted this dark village with small patches of white walls flashing in between, creating a melodious melody between black and white. If you enter a village or town, where there is a lot of noise, this accent will disappear.

The small town of Luzhi in Suzhou is densely populated, with houses colliding in front, behind, left and right, and eaves almost touching each other. Doors and windows are staggered, and pigeons may even mistake the door for their own. The patient painters carefully depicted the houses one after another, but the final effect of the painting often lost the rich feeling of dense layers and overlapping. It is the many images that compete for the painter's sight: horizontal, vertical, wide, narrow, rising, falling, in and out...This creates a complex structure of non-static sensations, interwoven with illusions, which are the direct relatives of sensitivity.
