On the afternoon of July 20th local time, late at night Beijing time, Israeli fighter jets launched air strikes on multiple locations in Hodeidah, an important port city in western Yemen.

According to the Yemeni Houthi armed forces, the Israeli army attacked civilian facilities such as port oil facilities and several power stations, causing casualties.

The Israeli military said the attack was aimed at Houthi military targets.

It is worth noting that Israel launched an air strike on Yemen on July 20, just before Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu left for his visit to the United States.

According to US media reports, US President Biden has been briefed on the Israeli air strike.

At least 80 people were injured

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on the evening of the 20th local time that Israeli Air Force fighter jets launched air strikes on Houthi military targets in the Hodeidah area, the main port city on the Red Sea of Yemen.

According to local health authorities in Yemen, the Israeli air strikes have injured at least 80 people, some of whom suffered severe burns.

According to an Israeli military spokesman, the airstrike was a "solo action" by the Israeli army, and several Israeli F-15 fighter jets carried out the airstrike with the support of aerial refueling tankers. Israel "informed the United States and some other allies" before launching the airstrike.

An Israeli military spokesman said that the airstrike, code-named "Long Arm", was a retaliation for the Houthi armed forces' "hundreds of attacks on Israel" in recent months, including a drone attack on the center of Tel Aviv in the early hours of July 19 local time that killed one person and injured multiple others.

Israel says it is intended to "warn the enemy"

Israeli Defense Minister Galant issued a video statement saying, "The fire burning in Hodeidah can be seen across the Middle East, and its significance is obvious."

Galant also said that the Israeli army will attack the Houthi armed forces "wherever it may be needed."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a video statement saying that Israeli warplanes attacked "a port in Yemen used by the Houthis to receive Iranian weapons."

Netanyahu said the attack, about 1,800 kilometers from Israel's border, was a "warning to the enemy that there is no place that Israel's 'long arm' cannot reach."

He also "called on the international community to strengthen measures against Iran and its proxies."

According to Israeli media reports, the plan for the airstrike on Hodeidah was formulated by Israeli Defense Minister Galant, IDF Chief of Staff General Halevy and other senior Israeli military officials.

The Israeli Security Cabinet convened an emergency meeting at around 2:30 p.m. local time on July 20 and approved the action plan. However, it is said that "not all members of the Security Cabinet agree with this action plan."

Yemen's Houthis vow revenge

Yahya Sariya, spokesman for the Yemeni Houthi armed forces, issued a statement in the evening saying that Israel launched air strikes on several targets in Hodeidah controlled by the Houthi armed forces that afternoon, including civilian facilities such as power stations and fuel depots.

Yahya Sarea said during the attack that the Houthis will "not hesitate to strike important Israeli targets" and stressed that the Houthis will "continue to act in support of the Palestinian people."

According to Israeli media reports, air defense systems across Israel have been put on alert, and the alert level in the southern port and the Red Sea coastal city of Eilat has been raised.

Iran strongly condemns

On July 20, local time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Kanani issued a statement saying that Iran strongly condemns Israel's attack on Hodeidah, Yemen.

Kanani said the attacks, which caused damage to civilian infrastructure in Hodeidah and injured Yemeni civilians, were a manifestation of Israel's "aggression," a dangerous act that could lead to further escalation of tensions in the region.

Kanani believes that Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip are the main reason for the current tension in the region. As long as Israel continues to invade Palestine, peace will not be restored in the region. Israel and countries supporting Israel, such as the United States, should bear direct responsibility for the current situation in the region.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing its great concern over Israel's military actions on Yemeni territory, saying that Israel's military actions have exacerbated the current escalation of tensions on all fronts. Egypt called on all parties to remain calm and restrained, and called on regional and international organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and urge Israel to end the war in Gaza.

Houthi armed forces: Action escalation!

In the early morning of July 19th local time, the Yemeni Houthi armed forces attacked Tel Aviv, Israel with drones. This was the first attack by the Houthi armed forces on Tel Aviv since the outbreak of a new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict last year.

The U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement saying that U.S. Defense Secretary Austin spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Galant on the 19th. The two sides talked about the drone attack on an apartment building in Tel Aviv early that morning. The attack killed one person and injured 10 people.

Galant also announced on the 19th that he would retaliate against the attack in Tel Aviv.

Later in the evening of the 19th, the Houthi armed forces held a large-scale rally in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen under their control. The Houthi armed forces stated that military operations against Israel were escalating.

Mohammed Ali Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Committee of the Yemeni Houthi armed forces, said, “Under the current situation, our military operations will continue to escalate. The military operation on the 19th penetrated deep into Israeli territory, which was caused by your own actions in Israel. Today’s operation is only part of a complex and advanced military operation, and the operation will continue.”

According to CCTV News, analysts said that the Houthi armed forces' attack on Tel Aviv, Israel, has once again escalated the situation in the entire Middle East and will have a reverse impact on the future direction of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The international community, led by the United Nations, is currently working hard to bring peace to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Yemen issue, so that the conflicting parties can return to the negotiation table and end the conflict as soon as possible. However, the escalation of the situation this time may add more variables to the prospects for peace.

EU condemns Israel

On July 19, local time, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell issued a statement condemning the Israeli parliament's rejection of the "two-state solution" and the relevant resolutions opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state. This is the second time the EU has expressed support for the establishment of a Palestinian state within a month.

The statement stressed that the international community generally believes that the "two-state solution" (establishing a fully sovereign, independent Palestinian state based on the pre-war borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital) is the only long-term solution to achieve peace and security in the Middle East. The EU will be committed to promoting lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East on the basis of the "two-state solution."

The statement said that the Palestinian people and the Israeli people have the same rights to security, dignity and peaceful life. The EU will continue to actively cooperate with international and regional partners to restart the Palestinian-Israeli political process. A reliable path to the establishment of a Palestinian state is an important part of this political process.
