in may 2023, wuxi woman pan moujie posted online many times, saying that her 3-year-old daughter was molested by mr. tang, the owner of a cake shop near her home. in july of the same year, the wuxi police in jiangsu province reported that after investigation, the police did not find that the girl had been molested and would not file a case.

mr. tang took pan moujie to court on the grounds of reputation infringement. after the judgment of the first instance court, pan moujie refused to accept the judgment and filed an appeal.

mr. tang said that during more than a year of defending his rights, he and his family had endured tremendous psychological pressure. some people kept calling to harass him, some sent him wreaths, and some even came to the store to insult him. because he was afraid that his neighbors would gossip, he did not dare to go back to his hometown to celebrate the new year until there was no final result.

mr. tang:during the second trial, the other party did not apologize and denied everything. during the trial, she said that the photo was not posted by her, nor did the douyin account belong to her. she provided another account, claiming that this account was hers, and asked me to provide evidence to prove it. i said that the evidence i provided was sufficient and there was no need to prove anything more.

mr. tang:in 2023, she found a shop near our store and wanted to do business. we have been here for several years. she would bring her children here and usually play with my children. she didn't have much contact with us. we were not familiar with her at all.

mr. tang:my family and i have endured a lot of mental stress. for several months, i cooperated with the investigation unconditionally 24 hours a day, and i was ready to respond to a call at any time. i have to go to work during the day, and every time i go to the court, my wife will take my 4-year-old child with me. because we are outsiders and have no relatives in wuxi, we are worried about our children being at home.

mr. tang:we mainly focus on takeout, and various platforms have blocked our store's permissions for several months, making it impossible to sell online. netizens also scolded me in comment sections related to me or our store, and the company also punished me. later, in order to maintain daily expenses, we laid off 3 of the 6 store employees.

in addition to scolding me online, some people also came directly to the store to make trouble. i would call the police every time they came to make trouble. some people mailed me wreaths directly, and even more people bombarded me with phone calls and sent me abusive messages. in the end, my call stopped. after the call stopped for a while, i went to the business office to resume it.

mr. tang:my mother, who is in her seventies, lives in her hometown and does not know how to play with smartphones. she heard some rumors from neighbors. although she did not know the specific situation, she was worried about me. i told her not to worry, it was just some misunderstanding. last year during the chinese new year, our family didn't go back because i was afraid that the neighbors would gossip. although i am innocent, there may still be people who say that the matter is not final. i really can’t describe the pressure i felt at that time. it was difficult to fall asleep at night and i didn’t have much appetite for food.

mr. tang:i never thought that i was innocent and had all the evidence, but the other party wanted to smear me. and i have a family, my wife and children are by my side, so there is no way i would give up. my supportive friend said to me, "you are innocent. you have to hold on and not be knocked down."

mr. tang:at first, many netizens left messages online to scold me. i know many people were deceived, and i don’t blame them much now. after the police investigation proved that i was innocent, many netizens sent me wechat messages to apologize, and some wanted to send me red envelopes to express their condolences, but i declined all of them. i don't need money, i want innocence and reputation.
