hyundai motor group said it will work with south korea's national fire agency to develop the firefighting robot by the end of this year and put it into practical use from 2026.
in early august this year, a mercedes-benz electric car parked in the underground parking lot of an apartment in incheon city caught fire and caused a fire. the fire department proposed to use hyundai rotem's multi-purpose unmanned vehicle platform to develop a firefighting vehicle equipped with a water cannon to improve its heat resistance. after further discussions, the two parties reached a final agreement and will jointly develop an unmanned firefighting robot.

the agency plans to deploy a prototype of the unmanned firefighting robot and conduct a trial run in the first half of next year. based on feedback, the new equipment will be provided to some regional special fire and rescue teams by the end of 2026.
hyundai motor group said it expects the robot to support remote-controlled firefighting, which will provide an effective solution for fires in underground facilities that are difficult for firefighters to access or dangerous.
