on the 25th local time, during the general debate of the 79th un general assembly, the g20 foreign ministers' meeting was held at the un headquarters in new york. the meeting was hosted by brazil and focused on global governance reforms, as well as global initiatives such as addressing hunger and poverty, promoting sustainable development and fair energy transition.in his speech, un secretary-general guterres called on global institutions to work together to address the many challenges facing the world today.

guterres said progress was becoming out of reach in all these areas as the world became more unsustainable, unequal and unpredictable. he warned that with conflicts raging, the climate crisis deepening, inequalities widening and new technologies offering unprecedented potential for both good and bad, global institutions must work together rather than in parallel or conflict.

guterres stressed that g20 members can take action in three specific areas: finance; climate; and strong, inclusive and legitimate global institutions and tools to address current and future challenges.

he pointed out that the international community needs to reform the international financial architecture so that it fully represents today's global economy and provides strong support for the implementation of the sustainable development goals. he also urged g20 countries to actively participate in the reform of un agencies.

un secretary-general guterres:i urge the g20 to seize every opportunity to step up ambition for global leadership and transformative action to build a safer, more peaceful and sustainable world for all.
