sendai city is the economic, transportation and education center of japan's northeastern region and has deep friendly roots with china. lu xun once studied at tohoku university in sendai city. currently, there are more than a thousand chinese students at the university.
cui weilei, the chinese consul general in niigata, said that this year is the 120th anniversary of mr. lu xun's study in sendai, and next year will be the 45th anniversary of the establishment of a sister city relationship between changchun and sendai. the sendai china festival aims to showcase china's traditional culture and modernization achievements, promote china's colorful tourism resources, and inspire people to understand china, know china, and get closer to china. i hope this event will continue for a long time and become another festival for sendai citizens.
yanagi hideki, director of the sendai city culture and tourism bureau, read the opening speech of sendai mayor kazuko gun. kazuko gun said, "i am very happy that the 'sendai china festival', as a new platform for citizens to communicate, can showcase chinese traditional culture, food and art. as we all know, sendai is where mr. lu xun once studied. there are currently more than 1,400 chinese students in sendai. whenever i see them studying hard here, i always feel deeply the deep connection with mr. lu xun. next year will be the 45th anniversary of the establishment of a sister city between sendai and changchun. we will continue to work hard to promote exchanges between sendai, changchun and even china."
on that day, the traditional folk dance, martial arts, erhu performances and other wonderful performances at the "sendai chinese festival" attracted a large number of citizens to stop and watch. the chinese consulate general in niigata, the tokyo chinese cultural center, the chinese tourism office in tokyo and other institutions set up special booths to provide consular business consultation and promote chinese tourism resources to the audience. in addition, local overseas chinese groups, overseas student organizations, chinese restaurants, cultural and tourism associations and enterprises also set up booths. many citizens experienced diabolo, tried on hanfu and tasted chinese food on site. sendai citizen abe megumi said that her children were very interested in every booth and hoped that more similar activities could be held.
