many years later, i set foot on the land of macau again

in early september 2024, i was invited to macau to participate in the chinese buddhist chanting concert and peace bell prayer ceremony.

i recently bought a book online and i’m on the road again, enjoying the travel life that i still love. this book is “buddhism in macau” written by mr. he jianming. i also know that poetry and distant places are not in other places, especially for spiritual practice and being a person. but in my heart, there is always one end that is walking. i don’t know why, but sometimes life is like a spiritual practice while walking. in fact, i don’t always think about where to go. as a person, i just want to go out and take a look, so that i will not have wasted my time in this world.

macau, which is located by the sea, looks very foreign from a distance. we took the sai wan bridge, the third bridge in macau, and it turned out that hengqin in zhuhai was on the side. the car drove to the new district of macau, which was thriving and rising under construction, which was very exciting. macau looks like a beautiful and beautiful city. i have a preliminary understanding and cognition of hong kong and taiwan. as for the buddhist situation and ecological environment in macau, my mind is blank and i know very little. however, i had contact with master kuanjing, the president of the macau charity association, at the liuzu temple in heyuan, guangdong in the early years. after many years, i set foot here again, which was also the fate with master kuanjing.

buddhism has always been associated with heaven.typhoon "makar" bypassed macau

as luck would have it, a typhoon called "ma ke" was said to be coming to macau. the name also sounded a bit like a term related to buddhism. master pu zheng and i walked a little on the street under the guidance of a volunteer. we didn't dare to walk too far because there was a typhoon forecast and the wind on the street was gradually getting stronger. we hurried back to the hotel and stayed quietly.

the next morning, everything was fine before 7 o'clock. after breakfast, i returned to the room. before 7 o'clock, there were sparse raindrops on the window glass. the beautiful scenery outside was also blurred by the clouds and mist. it was raining heavily outside. the erratic raindrops were diffused in the air and on the ground, dancing with the wind.

we often say that buddhism has always created a heavenly affinity, and this time it has been well proven. macau is a city of lotus treasures, and this blessing is also a large-scale buddhist event held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of macau's return. although the typhoon was warned in macau, it later bypassed macau and was unblocked at 2 pm on september 6. therefore, this event can continue to be held normally. as the saying goes, typhoons are ruthless, but people are kind. it allows everyone here to witness that macau's future will be even better, because there will be rainbows after the storm.

chinese buddhist chanting concert, let us see the flourishing new buddhism in macau

on the evening of september 6, the "golden lotus blossoms, hearts connected" chinese buddhist chanting concert and peace bell blessing event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the people's republic of china and the 25th anniversary of macau's return to the motherland was grandly opened at the macau studio city arena, hosted by the macau buddhist charity association and undertaken by hangzhou lingyin temple, suzhou hanshan temple and macau bodhi zen temple. the scene was bright with buddha's light, unprecedentedly grand, abundant and auspicious.

this year, we were able to hold such a large-scale prayer event in macau, thanks to the strong support of venerable jie sheng, president of the macau buddhist association, and bodhi monastery. we have seen a gratifying and thriving new buddhism in macau. what they are writing will be a brand new chapter for macau. history will remember this day, and macau society and the buddhist community in macau will also remember this day forever.

at the jiangsu, zhejiang and shanghai friendship association banquet held at wynn palace, the guests unanimously praised that the blessing event held by the chinese buddhist association in macau was very meaningful. i am also very happy. this is a large-scale event held by the buddhist community in close contact with the chamber of commerce. it is also a new and good form of linkage, which is worth learning from.

due to the limited size of the temple, macau may not be able to accommodate this large-scale blessing event. fortunately, large-scale buddhist events are increasingly held outside temples. the number of companies that believe in buddhism and people in society who are willing to support and actively make a vow is increasing, which helps the positive influence and widespread dissemination of buddhism in society, reflecting a good trend of interaction and development. this time, under the aspirations of master kuan jing, famous temples such as hangzhou lingyin temple and suzhou hanshan temple, as well as macau's dharma protector foundation, mr. yang xun of the yang family and his sunrise group, all enthusiastically participated and actively supported these public welfare buddhist activities.

the light of wisdom never goes out, commemoration of the sixth anniversary of the passing of venerable jian zhao

influence life with life, and bodhi people influence bodhi people. we were lucky enough to participate in the sixth anniversary of the death of elder jian zhao, the "eternal light of wisdom". this was an old monk who frequently represented macau in buddhist activities in the mainland in the past 20 years. this was the first time i stepped into his temple in macau. i witnessed this ancient temple and the adjacent modern nursing home building. these buildings witnessed his hard work in macau, the hardships of starting a business, and his outstanding contributions to the buddhist community in macau. although he is no longer here, through the buddhist temple he left behind, our commemoration of this old monk today, as well as the participation of many believers, are enough to demonstrate his lofty status and far-reaching influence in the buddhist community in macau. master mingsheng, vice president of the buddhist association of china, highly praised and fully recognized the contributions of the old monk.

there are many interesting things. for example, the chief executive of the macao special administrative region also attended the prayer music evening held by the chinese buddhist fanbei art troupe in macao. after the evening ended successfully, he took a group photo with the performers on the same stage. in his speech, he said that the successful performance tonight made him recognize a different buddhism. at the same time, he also said that through such activities, everyone can also recognize a different macao.

our great motherland, the people's republic of china, has been founded for 75 years, and macau has also returned to the motherland for 25 years. how wonderful it is to have a strong motherland! how wonderful it is to have a beautiful macau! the golden lotus is in full bloom, and our hearts are connected!

may god bless china! may the world be peaceful! may the people be happy!
