but what surprised the outside world was that on the morning of september 9, ko wen-je's lawyer issued a statement after meeting with ko wen-je in the detention center, announcing that ko wen-je would not appeal.

this news once again shocked people both inside and outside the island.

hong kong media said that this was a bombshell dropped by ko wen-je.

in my opinion, this is ko wen-je's declaration of war to lai ching-te: come on, i will lie down and fight you to the end.

ko wen-je's lawyer's statement also revealed two important pieces of information: first, giving up the appeal was not the result of the discussion in the past few days. as early as the opening of the taipei district court, ko wen-je said that if he was detained, he would not appeal. second, from the beginning to the end, ko wen-je did not regard the taipei district prosecutors office and the taipei district court as opponents. on the contrary, on the one hand, he said he was unwilling to embarrass the judge, and on the other hand, he encouraged the prosecutors to exhaust all their investigation obligations during the two-month detention period, and he himself would do his best to cooperate with the investigation. this shows that ko wen-je is very clear that lai ching-te is his opponent, and the prosecutors and the judge who sentenced him to detention are just thugs.

lai qingde now faces two thorny problems: first, the work of the taipei district prosecutor's office is not effective and has not met expectations. the key to making the ko wen-je case an ironclad case is to use facts and evidence to confirm that ko wen-je accepted bribes. so far, the taipei district prosecutor's office has not obtained this evidence.

the second problem facing lai qingde is that someone is stirring up trouble in his backyard, which is very dangerous and may lead to someone jumping out and setting fire to his backyard.

from the perspective of the kuomintang’s top leaders, there are at least three levels in the ko wen-je case.

the first level is personal honor and disgrace. this level will be discussed later.

the second level is the safety of the party. from the perspective of the political game on the island, the relationship between the kuomintang and the people's party is a relationship of mutual dependence. taiwanese media celebrities have repeatedly reminded that after lai qingde has dealt with ke wenzhe, the next step is to take action against the top leaders of the kuomintang. as for who to take action first, it is still unknown. from this level of analysis, the kuomintang must resolutely support ke wenzhe and the people's party for the sake of its own party honor and survival.

the third level is the welfare of the people. for the benefit of all taiwanese people, the kmt has an obligation to stop the dpp from abusing its power. after the ke wenzhe case broke out, some people pointed out that one of the cruxes of the case was whether the "crime of seeking profit" should be abolished. in this regard, media celebrity yan mo's comments were very sharp. yan mo pointed out: "stupid, the problem is abuse of power, not the law. according to the poor quality of taiwan's judicial system, the fewer laws there are, the more abuse of power there is. it is not impossible to abolish the crime of seeking profit, but who will benefit from the relaxation of the judicial system? isn't it the corrupt officials and unscrupulous businessmen under the 'party-prosecution integration'?"

as yan mo said, the key to the ke wenzhe case is the abuse of power by the dpp authorities. if this abuse of power is not stopped, it will be used on ke wenzhe today, and on the kmt tomorrow. in the long run, it will be used on anyone in taiwan, and the dpp will become a dictatorial party that "those who follow me will prosper, and those who oppose me will perish."
